Does everyone else’s roof liner look like this? Kinda wrinkled. For reference my truck is about a month old with about 800 miles on the odo.

It's seam sealer. Perfectly normal. My question is why they put a couple segments of trim rather than the full length like other vehicles.

The 'segments' cover the roof rack mounting holes. Yes, they could have just extended them the whole length, for appearance sake.

That’s reassuring that mine isn’t a defect but at the same time it’s troubling that it looks like crap.

Ditto. Every other vehicle I've had whether having rack mounts or not had a complete trim strip. This is just going cheap and makes one wonder what other shortcuts were taken.

For me it’s an issue as a first time truck owner so I don’t have any past experiences with this type of quality at least to me. I’m coming from a BMW X5, BMW 535i, Subaru Forester and none of those cars & suv have this wavy molding that look like crap. So excuse me for being surprised that this is normal with “trucks”.

all of your past cars have had it and it looked wavy like that.. its just been covered up with plastic... its where the roof metal panel comes together with the side panels. they are spot welded and then covered in seam sealer. new tacomas are pretty tall unless you are 7foot tall you most likely wont see it, thats prolly why they didnt cover the entire thing up.

Do any owners of white Tacomas have this issue? I've only owned the truck for 6 months and wash weekly and what appears to be mold is growing in this area mentioned in the OP's post. Also, unlike the OP's pictures where it appears this section on the roof is gloss coated, mine feels almost gritty as if no gloss coat was put down. Thoughts?

Reminds me of early-build prototype quality, but it somehow slipped all the way through to final production.

Best we can hope for is that they’ll quietly install a full-length strip as part of a model-year change that we can order & retrofit.

It’s my ignorance as it is the first time owning a truck. I did not know that this is considered normal with trucks. My other cars also have a vinyl rubber inserts and its color matched or black and it’s smooth.

Don't blame all trucks. I've had many cars, trucks, SUVs. This is my first Toyota. And this is the first time I've ever seen an incomplete roof trim. I've looked online and there are rolls of universal 1" wide trim with 3M automotive tape available for cheap. I may pull off these OEM sections and insert a solid full length trim. The only places I've seen exposed painted over seam sealer have been in areas like the trunk and under the hood. Never on the outside body. That's the whole purpose of that type of trim, to cover up the seam sealer. I've been seeing some cost cutting measures on this truck. If it remains relegated to things that are only cosmetic then I'm not too concerned. So far I've had no mechanical, structural or electrical problems.
