I’m indifferent on the alternator, one less part to replace at 100kmi.

What I’d really want for Christmas is the redundant starter that Toyota gave the Lexus LX 700h’s.

So that blows that theory about auxiliary switches. Is the alternator just a Canadian thing?

I have no issues with my starter battery going dead but I don't have auxiliary switches and don't use remote starting or remote monitoring. Just curious why some now have the alternator.

I have a Canadian spec 2024 Hybrid Off Road Premium with 3 AUX switches and I don’t have an alternator.

As described by Lexus, I want this:

“What’s more, unlike Lexus’ other hybrid models, the hybrid system on the 2025 Lexus LX 700h includes both an alternator and a starter.

The starter enables an independent engine ignition in the event the hybrid system is inoperable, while an alternator powers the 12V auxiliary battery, allowing the vehicle to continue driving using only the engine.“

They added some extra sauce in the '25 Canadian hybrid.

You do know road side radar is not accurate. The more skewed the angle, the more off the read it's reporting you as. If it is saying 1-2 mph slower, then you're likely spot accurate.

Better comparison is the truck display versus your phone on Waze or Google maps, or compared to a Garmin.

Interesting, I have to check that out. I have put about 300 miles on mine since I bought it last month.

I drive mostly in Eco mode. I get lots of power when acceleration is needed (anytime my wife isn't with me. My past experience with hybrids is that the engine only seems to run at idle if the traction battery is low (one of a few reasons). Also, when I use the A/C outlets, the engine will run.

Hit 1000 miles today on the 3-week anniversary of purchase and I have to say I am pretty happy. 18 mpg for those of you keeping track at home and I have mainly driven around town with a couple trips on the freeway to the nearest city.

After driving a mid-sized SUV for the last 5 years these last 3 weeks of driving the Tacoma have been great. Learning about all the different mods and stuff is a bit much but I am just starting with skid plates and a bed extender for now. I will be doing rock sliders and tires sometime in May and that will be it for a couple weeks at least ha.

Does the addition of the alternator make those trucks trybrids? It's gas with a mild hybrid and an alternator for supplemental electic.
