Does anyone have any idea what the 5VZ cam lobe separation angles are? I found somewhere that both durations are 226, curious if they are not separated enough, perhaps for turbo application we can spread the duration a tooth or two to reduce overlap if need be

Yea that's my worry long term. Especially on the trail, but I also don't want to carry a whole spare mechanical fan as a trail spare. I wouldn't have installed an E-fan if I didn't have the ability to do PMW control. I think a lot of the threads and talk about efan failures I read in the past were with those cheaper kits you can get that are just on-off based on temp.
Although given this fan will likely never see any higher than 50% DC, it should live an easy life and last a while :fingerscrossed:

How many failures have you experienced and on what vehicles?

I've replaced 3 in my life:
    2013 Nissan Versa
    2004 Saab 9-3
    2003 Lexus ES300

Pretty bad track record considering I've only had maybe 5-6 vehicles with e-fans I've been responsible for looking after. I'm probably just unlucky though

Anyone know if a good spot to place a knock sensor on a 3rz? I've got the stud type and the OEM spot won't accept that kind.

So last two fill-ups were still only 13.4mpg :( (literally down to the decimal)
I think I may still have smaller exhaust leaks at the manifolds, but clearly this is not the only problem.

I think I'm going to sit down and really tighten up shift points and TC lockup now that I've gotten a feel for what adjustments can be made. I might even do a RPM map and see how it feels instead. There are a lot of times I'll be sitting at 2k RPM in 2nd or 3rd gear at the same vehicle speed and it wont shift because it's waiting for that mph trigger, for instance, just spinning that TC.

What does your timing map look like? A few posts ago when I was trying to get my feet underneath me with ignition mapping, I found one of your tunes. I think it might've been from like September or December of 2024 or something (I'm not near my personal computer with the Haltech tuning software at the moment). And I thought your timing map looked like it was leaving a lot on the table. Especially after data logging my stock ECU quite a bit and rebuilding it's ignition tables in Excel, I felt like yours was not nearly as advanced as what it should've been. Could likely be contributing to your bad MPG issue.

It's probably exactly the same, but with almost a global +2* since I introduced knock based control, but I haven't spent the time wiring up knock ears to tune their sensitivities to practicality.

In mid to high boost I got a lot of flack from Zane for having them too advanced, and he was right as I was getting audible ping, so I know in those regions they're pretty close to their thresholds at least. But to your point, ya the normal driving zones are definitely not optimized, but I can't imagine I'm more than 5-8* off in any given cell. Maybe that's more impactful than I realize though..

Of note, 15mpg is where I typically was when stock, but a large goal of going Haltech was to increase that

I feel you on that last part. I'm still lucky to hit 100 miles on half a talk I think the exhaust leaks are the real killer.

Ya that's about my metric rn as well. Get about 200 miles before the needle hits the empty mark (16ish gallons). I at least used to regularly get 230 back in the day.

Something I played with on the way home were the built-in Fuel Economy meters. Average is a very short average, enough to reset during a red light, but would typically read around 6L/100km when maintaining 50mph, and over 100L/100km when modestly accelerating to get to speed. Decel can range from low 2s to 0 (fuel cut). 6L/100km = 39mpg. Let's say conservatively stop and go traffic results in half this. So the question is, how the heck is it this far off from reality?

I've wondered how close the average MPG estimates are as well. The instant readouts seem believable, but I don't wanna hookup my laptop for every drive on a whole tank to find out...
Can't you config one of your raspi gauges to give that readout?
