My rear shocks are “severely rusted” according to a shop. I wanna replace them with off-road capable replacements since it’s the TRD off-road trim.
Other than beefier AT tires, the underside is stock.

I do some off-roading and ride trails a few times a year, etc. sometimes skirting the edge of what the stock OR can handle with my AT tires.

What’s a good value replacement for rear shocks if I want to maintain the off-road capability? I’d like to request certain specs or models when I get the work done.

(I say “value” because I’m in between jobs right now, but I love my truck and the trails.)

    TIA

Bilstein 5100 is the best value replacement, and probably the most popular all around replacement. Can get them for the front to match when you need them in the future.

If your shocks are rust buckets, I'd be carefully examining the frame health before spending any money on the truck.

What year, where has it lived, and how many miles?

Pictures would help determine how "rusty" they are.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
I agree with the suggestion to check your frame. If you don't have a lift or skidplates and only do rather mild offroad, why not just put stock or stock equivalent shocks back on? I don't see anything in the OP that suggests spending money on anything more.

If you’re strapped for cash you could always look for some low mileage takeoffs here or on marketplace that would be just like originals or go the 5100 route if money allows. Usually can find some oem takeoffs really cheap

Thanks all. To answer some questions it’s a 2009 with about 165,000 miles on it.

“Stock“ or OEM replacements are what I’m going for - but in the case of the OR trim I understood that stock was indeed Bilstein or equivalent. That’s all I meant.

I’ll give it a wash down there and check for rust soon.
