    Food for thought:

If some of the options you're looking at can be easily added after delivery, consider a less specific build. $455 to add a bed-step that you can buy for $325 and bolt on yourself (or a $100 Amazon knockoff that works as well)? Or $1300 for a Toyota branded backflip trifold bed cover that costs $1062 or less if you buy it separately? Or $1500 for cast aluminum running boards option that costs around $1000 if picked up locally and bolted on.

The differences can potentially offset the dealer crap addons you don't want, and allow you more flexibility to negotiate across multiple dealers.

Yeah i think that’s exactly what i’ll do. If they give me a good deal i’ll take it otherwise i’ll head down the road to San Marcos Toyota they do 0% finance on Tacomas. Will likely be 4.99% if I get the manual one. I’ll tell them that too.

Never thought I'd own a new car, but when looking for Tacomas the math doesn't make sense used sometimes. Thrilled to join the club. Ended up with a brand new truck that was 98% of what I wanted (preferred running boards to predator steps and wanted bed lighting), and got a 10yr/125k warranty because I'm a little wary of the tech inside + turbo.

2025 Underground Tacoma OR Prem Manual w/SDM

I had to drive out of state to get a manual, Off-Road, Premium, with sway bar disconnect. There was only one I could find. In the nation. I couldn't settle for the manual without the sway bar disconnect, I use it on my manual Bronco all the time.

The manual has been fine in traffic. Rev match and a super short first to second. Just pretend you are in the forest on a trail...

Manual in the Bronco is smoother. And the crawler gear is clutch for all sorts of scenarios. Manual in the Tacoma is direct so it shakes like a blender. Feels like 1 to 2 is shorter, 2-3 is hideous if you don't hit it right, 3-4 is where this thing sings and lives in normal driving, 4-5 is moderate 50-65 highway, and 6 is autopilot with cruise and all it's nannies.

If it wasn't clear, I would only get the manual, and after having spent some time with it would get it again without question.

And to put this back on topic:
    1. 2025, Off-Road Premium, Underground, manual, short
    2. MSRP will edit later
    3. Options will edit later
    4. Cost of dealer add ons - none
    5. Price before Tax Title License (TTL) will edit later
    6. Discount 1-(#5/#2)*100=% off MSRP)
    7. Incentive/Rebate - none
    8. Price Out The Door (OTD) will edit later
    9. Trade in vehicle(year, make, model, trim) - none
    10. Kelley blue book trade-in value - none
    11. Trade allowance(amount given for trade) - none
    12. Date purchased - March
I will look up the details later. $3500 below MSRP. I did not think it was a great deal but it was hard to find so I was not expecting one.

I'm really having a hard time with these prices. I've been truck shopping and every Pro/Trailhunter is around $68-$70k. I went and test drove a Ranger Raptor and it was night and day with way more power, smoother ride and it handled way better, has a front locker, suspension adjustment right from the driver seat, sounded better while also having less wind noise, better stereo and its literally $10,000 less, actual price at dealerships. I do like the look of the pro, but in person the Ranger Raptor looks meaner and the Pro looks, idk more like a luxury car. There are features I like but I just don't understand the pricing. Ugh.

You can find TH’s discounted heavily. You’re in the mafia region of Toyota, if your heart is really set on one fly in and drive it back. Here is a 2025 almost $4k off in Massachusetts.

The RR is an awesome truck but you’d be happy with the TH or Pro I’m sure too.

    1. Year, trim, color, transmission, bed - 2025 SR Red Manual Double Cab 5ft bed
    2. MSRP(before dealer add ons) - 40944
    3. Options - SR Upgrade and a couple other small things
    4. Cost of dealer add ons- (tint, floor mats, nitrogen, etc) None
    5. Price before Tax Title License (TTL) including incentive/rebate - 39444
    6. Discount 1-(#5/#2)*100=% off MSRP) - 3.66%
    7. Incentive (rebate/customer cash) Not sure
    8. Price Out The Door (OTD) - 42542
    9. Trade in vehicle(year, make, model, trim) None
    10. Kelley blue book trade-in value
    11. Trade allowance(amount given for trade)
    12. Date purchased 5/3/25
    13. State purchased WV (6% tax)
I figured this was a decent deal since the SR manuals are so hard to find. There was another one at another dealership that sold recently for no more than $1000 discount.

Not sure how accurate the numbers are but a nationwide Autotrader search shows 520 Ranger Raptors vs 362 Pros, and 192 Trailhunters (all 2025s). Why aren't the "bargain" Raptors flying off the shelf, er lots?

The Raptor has more power but in the recent TFL drag race, the Pro ran 16.05 vs 14.83 for the Ranger (Denver altitude). The Raptor had the Ford Performance tune which gives it an estimated 0.6sec advantage and was running premium gas. Put premium in the Pro and I'm sure you'd shave a few tenths. If a TRD tune (there's one for the Tundra) comes out, you'd probably get the same 0.6 advantage and now your only a couple tenths apart. In a 1/4mi drag race. If that's your thing.

I've yet to see a comparison video where the Ranger's front locker allowed it to go over terrain the Pro couldn't.

TH sounded bad outside because of its tailpipe, Ranger and Pro sounded about the same outside. Didn't drive the Ranger but Pro sounds good inside (even if it's fake). There's $6,500 difference between the Pro and the Raptor and you can't get ventilated seats in the raptor. For me, the pricing made perfect sense.

toyota builds whatever is most popular for that particular region. for example you will find A TON of 4X2 here in Texas compared to a snowing state up north.

extended warranty is more expensive if you buy towards the end of the 3/36 term

How much more so? I've not shopped them.

Where I'm going is - what's the cost difference compare to putting the funds in a conservative investment when you buy the truck then use the proceeds to buy the warranty 30 months later? Or keep the funds invested and self-insure. I've not had what would've been a covered repair in twenty years ownership between my 4runner and tacoma, plus another twelve years for my wife's Rav4.

Also - how much of the cost of the extended warranty do you get back if you decide to sell the truck in three years (or it gets wrecked/stolen)?

Find out what the cost will be if you purchase 30 months into ownership and calculate how much interest you would earn on the amount of the extended warranty. $1,000 @ 5% with simple interest would be $125.

The refund on the extended warranty would be prorated.

Exactly - so the question then is what's the (inflation adjusted) cost difference buying at 0 months vs 30 months.

And even if it costs more than the interest, it hedges against changes in needs or an accident resulting in not keeping the vehicle as long as expected.

It was more a rhetorical question but yes - if you end up selling the truck at the three year mark you lose 3/7ths of the cost of the extended warranty which hadn't yet really gone into effect due to the overlap with factory 3/36.

Also factor in the 5/60 powertrain and 8/80 emissions related warranties

Several years ago, prior to COVID, a coworker's CD player stopped working and Honda wanted $7K to replace it. If the extended warranty is $1K, seems well worth it to me.

Never buy a head unit at OEM retail. That’s the scare tactic they use to sell extended warranties.

Buy a good used from a wreck via eBay for a few hundred. Even buying first or second year of a model, by the time you’re out of the 3/36 there’ll be plenty.
