I bought my 2024 SR5 in November. Believe it or not I only have 309 miles on it. I work from home and drive another vehicle most of the time. The Tacoma is garaged and covered.

I got the email below and I made an appointment for service. I guess I should keep the appt. if for nothing else than to have things documented.

DON'T FORGET — YOU HAVE TOYOTACARE*
The ToyotaCare plan covers normal factory-scheduled service for 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. 24-hour roadside assistance is also included for 2 years.

I will keep the appt, hopefully it will be free. Anything I should tell them to look for. It's been good so far. Traded in a 2022 that didn't shift right. They didn't seem to care, got a decent trade-in value. I am not thrilled with the TSS stuff but stuck with it. Plan to get a Carista OBD to change what I can:

All Tacomas will come with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of advanced driving aids. That means everything from the base SR up will have adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, road sign recognition, lane departure alert and lane centering assistance. New to TSS is Proactive Driving Assist, which lowers the adaptive cruise control speed to slow for upcoming curves. Enhancements to TSS include motorcyclist detection for the forward collision system and a steering assist system when lane departure warning detects you drifting into another lane or off the road.

they are going to see your miles when you arrive at the dealership and turn you away and say comeback at 5000 miles. if you do not drive 5000 miles in 2 years then it is your loss. there is nothing that needs to be checked at 4 months and 300 miles other than the gas tank....

Maintenance intervals are mileage or time, whichever comes first.

Now, at 5k miles there's not much needed in most cases, so it can usually be skipped.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of the 6 months. Also I would like to know if they think it has the transmission problem. This one shifts OK, way better than the 2022 I with 26K miles I traded in because it was always gear hunting. Neither of the dealers close to me (Clearwater Toyota and AutoNation Toyota Pinellas Park) get good service reviews but I'm stuck, can't go all the way over to Tampa at this time.

You'll get two free oil changes even if you don't have the miles.

I was going to point out the same thing. I purchased in Nov last year. My first service visit at 5K will be sometime in June.
I want the oil changed on that first visit, and my local dealer has not had a problem keeping track of those changes, so with my 2021 I got it covered at 5K, 10K, and 15K.
At 20K, I paid for the oil change on top of regular covered services. They always remind me that the actual schedule is every 10K for oil, but honor my request.

Same for me - I took my new Tacoma in for first service recently, at 5000 miles, and hadn't checked to see what would be included and was surprised it did not include the oil change, so I told them to do it anyway. I didn't want to wait until 10,000 miles for the first oil change! I let them use one of my free oil changes to pay for it.

thats all well and good but its First 2 years free maintenance. if OP only has 2000 miles by year 2 how many times did he need is oil changed or tires rotated in 2000 miles? and if you say well its every 6 months it needs inspected your just wasting everyones time going into a dealer every 400 miles to have it "inspected" .

The oil still needs to be changed every 12 months.

FWIW, I decided to pass, and do all my maintenance myself. It's not like it saves me meaningful money to have a Toyota tech to do cheap maintenance tasks.

Original Poster here. I cancelled the appt. The main reason I was gonna get it in the dealer was, I was afraid if I didn't, that if something happened (like the transmission started having problems), they might try to get out of it cuz I didn't keep up the appts. I had to trade in a used 2022 I had before this bc it shifted gears so badly.

I have not changed oil in a vehicle for years but I am considering it now. Thanks to previous post JoeMango for the idea. The 2022, I had it in and they let the drivers door swing out the wrong way (away from the vehicle) and it didn't open properly after that. I didn't notice at the dealer and a day or 2 later when I noticed it was too late. So I'm not keen to take in if I can avoid it. Thanks everyone here for the info. I know it seems strange to have a new truck with such low miles. I bought partly bc I thought the tariffs may increase the price and inflation would eat up the value of the 37K I paid for it. Of course trading in the 2022 cost me about $ 4500 but the 2022 had 23K miles and the 2024 had 0.
