Thanks for the reply! That was my main concern. I've seen several members on this forum swap out their JBL speakers for 4ohm aftermarket and lost a little volume (some said it wasn't very noticeable), but this is the first time I'm hearing about significantly reduced phone call volume. That's definitely not ideal.

Curious - did you install the OEM Audio Plus original (smaller) tweeters? I'm wondering how their new "2" full range tweeters" perform with the factory JBL system.

I installed the 2-in full range tweeters. Call audio comes out of the Tweeter fyi. So having a 4 ohm tweeter there basically makes calls useless. You can still listen to music and it will sound better though.

Just want to post on here. My sub had the LPF at 500hz had to adjust it down. I ended up getting a tip from another guy here cause OEM audio hasn't been responding.

That has made the system sound a lot better, but there's still some issues.mostly the lack of after sales support.

Hi all. I've had the OEM Audio+ Reference Series non-JBL full system (speakers, 8" sub and dedicated sub amp) installed for about 1.5 months in my DCSB. During the install, I did a fair amount of sound deadening in the doors and rear wall, but not the floor.

Question: Will swapping the head unit for an aftermarket one (Joying, Sony, whatever) improve the sound quality?

After installing it, overall I found the mid-highs a tad on the fatiguing side:
    • Some songs sound decent, acoustic and alt-rock tracks mainly (think Willie Nelson's latest album, WILCO, Sun Volt, Giant Sand).
    • Other tracks with heavy symbols or rock/metal electric guitars are quite fatiguing (think TOOL, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Rage Against the Machine, Rise Against).
About a week after installing the system, I got an email from OEM Audio+ about their new 2" tweeters. I immediately emailed them to find out if it's a marked improvement, hoping this would solve the mid/mid-highs issue. Their market language was quite strong:

"This isn't just an improvement; it's a complete audio transformation. While our 1" tweeter delivered impressive clarity, the 2" Full Range Tweeter takes your listening experience to a whole new level."

After getting a response back from OEM assuring me this would be a large leap forward, I bit the bullet. They arrived about a month later and I've had them in the truck for a week now.

    My impressions:
    • Everything I didn't like about the 1" tweeters is now amplified.
    • While the mids/mid-highs/highs are in fact now clearer, it comes at the expense of harshness. The best word to describe it is "shrill".
    • I have an hour/1 hr 15min commute and if I listen to the volume at 30-35 (stock head unit), my ears ring slightly when I shut the truck off.
    • I've lowered the "mids" on the head unit by 2 to 3 clicks below flat. That comes at the expense of some clarity, but softens the harshness.
    • To be fair, I have NOT contacted OEM+ yet for possible solutions as I'm trying to give it some time (it's only been a week), but think it's inevitable I'll be swapping back to the 1" OEM speakers.
Caveats about my impressions. I recognize everyone interprets sound differently - audio science and all that. I'm a mid-tier audiophile and lifelong guitarist who leans towards warmer sounding setups (think tube amp) and have never liked overtly bright speakers. The "soft dome" tweeters was one of the reasons I went with OEM in the first place since most metallic-based speakers (aluminum, titanium, etc.) are too bright for me.

I swapped my head but prior to installing oem audio plus speakers. I noticed a huge difference from that more than I did after switching from the stock speakers to the oem speakers.
