For all 2023 Tacoma owners. Keep an eye out for a water leak from front windshield. Bought my 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road in October 22nd. December 5th noticed a strip of condensation on the inside of my windshield right above the dash. Check engine light came on, fuel gauge, distance to empty and outside air temperature reading were way off. At this time, the truck only had 970 miles. Brought it to the dealer and they supposedly could not verify anything and they couldn’t find a water leak. So I took the truck back and not even a week goes by and everything starts acting up again so I bring it back. This is December 12th.
So they test the fuel sending unit and swap the combination meter and blah blah blah. They give me the run around bull shit story and order a new combination meter. Then they’re having trouble ordering a meter. Guess the meter finally comes in. Been well over a month.
Since the truck has been at the dealer for so long, they finally put the shop foreman on it and he digs into it more. Well guess what. Over the holidays here in Northern California we had some major major rain. Atmospheric river kind of rain. Guess where my truck was parked. Out in the lot.
So he finds the carpet is wet and ends up pulling out the dash to find the leak. He found the windshield wasn’t sealed correctly on the drivers side. The water was leaking in for so long that it got into some connectors which got corroded causing all the issues. The carpet is getting replaced, 2 wiring harnesses have been replaced and now they’re doing a mold mitigation testing. I still don’t have my truck.
So if you own a 23 Tacoma, be on the lookout for condensation on your windshield right above the dash or moisture in your carpet. I think if they really checked for a water leak the right way the first time, I probably would have my truck back right now and the damage could have been minimized. Note: I’ve been a Technician/Shop Foreman for over 20 years and different dealership and car lines.

My 23 has been through car wash with me in the cab several times, it’s also been in the rain.

I would think if you were a tech you might have figured this out…

Ooof, sorry to hear. Luck of the draw to get a leaky windshield from the factory. That totally sucks they misdiagnosed this issue. The electronics and wiring getting soaked is concerning. Who would have thought a brand new truck would leak in that manner? My truck has been in a few atmospheric rivers here as well. A number of car washes and pressure washers with no signs of leaking. Good luck with your repairs and welcome to TW. Wish it was on different circumstances that you were posting.

Welcome to the forum. Boy that sure sucks! Should get an extended warranty so if they miss something you aren’t screwed later on.

That’s why I brought it to the dealer. Truck is brand new and barely a 1000 miles on it.

Welcome to the forum :hattip: sorry this issue has to be your first post.

Since it sounds like the service department dropped the ball here you might politely push for an upgrade to the platinum extended warranty at no cost.

We are having this exact issue with our brand new 2023 Tacoma! Just bought it at the end of December. Took it to the dealership, they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Thank you for posting this we will be sharing it with the dealership. This is bad and we live in the Pacific Northwest where it rains all the time!

Glad I can help. Hopefully the dealer you deal with is better than the dealer I’m dealing with

Are they ordering the Combo meter with your exact mileage on the Odometer? If not you could have trouble certifying the mileage when you sell it.

i dont understand the desire for a roof rack, you are just asking for problems sooner or later, if my stuff wont fit in the cab or bed i would have got a bigger truck.....is it a cool thing to show off?

Have Had the Same Issue but on the Rear left Hand Side , 2023 Tacoma Off Road TRD ! It has to be Either the Rear Top Stop Light, Shark Fin Antenna , or coming down the Last Curved Rubber strip where the Roof Racks are supposed to Mount! I took apart the Rear Headliner to the point where I can see all. ... I Put a Little Cup of water in the Driver side Rear Roof Rack Rails Channel , and it flowed towards the Rear .... soon it was coming in the inside by the Drivers Side Back Rear window.. That is my Water Leak ! Turns out there is another Little Rubber additional gasket missing about 3/8 Inch square by about 4-5 inches ..... One is on the Rear Passenger side, but not on the Driver...

Question where do you find REPLACMENT part, for this Little Square Rubber gasket part ???? or does a person make one say out of Old inner tubes, or some plyable rubber, added with Silicone to fill the Void and stop the water Entry.

Possible Solution Options....2023 should be covered under warranty.

    D) leave it alone and have it fixed by the dealer so its documented and warranted.

There’s a service campaign for the leaking 3rd brake light- have your dealer fix it for free. At least that’ll rule it out. Good luck!
