My new Tacoma has the factory spray on bedliner, first time I've had a spray on bed coating. In the past I've always had rubber bed mats and I like having that softer surface in the bed.

Is there anything wrong with using the rubber bed mat even if the bed has the protective coating?

Also, if I purchase a bed mat, I've heard that the Lasfit, WeatherTech, and OEM Toyota are all good. Recommendations?

I don't know how that Amazon link appeared in my post above, I didn't do that myself!

    And it happened again here!

None yet. Just bought it. First project: tailgate damper soon.
I just bought my 2025 Tacoma and every one I looked at had the Port Installed "Spray On Bedliner".
I asked about the process and was told it is not sprayed on as one would think but is a composite bedliner with texture vs. the smooth composite bedliner.

Very interesting! So they say 'spray on' but it's not really that, instead it's something that looks like a 'spray on'. Not what I would have thought, but probably it doesn't matter too much (other than a certain lack of transparency).

$575.00 add on that I had concerns about holding up if actually was sprayed on.

I have the OEM spray on bed liner and I still went with the OEM bed mat. Works great.

I call BS. Port install isn’t gonna be changing out the bed.

Go look at your bed bolts, the ones I’ve seen were all sprayed with textured material.

It is true, all the bolts are covered and that makes it difficult to remove with all that gunk in the torx heads that require a high torque. I had to fight with it to get my bed molly panels installed. I would say it is a spraying process, but I supposed it could be brushed on also, but I doubt that.

The material does appear to do a good job, and probably worth it, but it is a bit rough so I may sometime in the future add a bed mat on top of it.

I’ve been wondering how the roughness is in day to do use. I’ve had an OEM bed mat in my 3rd gen for over eight years and it’s been great. Stuff stays put and never a worry about anything getting scuffed up.

To OP’s question, I doubt a bed mat will cause any issues with the spray on product.

I haven't added a bed mat yet, so I can't say for sure, but I don't understand why it wouldn't work. I would prefer the feeling of a rubberlike bed mat, but the bed liner does give very good seal and protection so both would be a great option for my future needs. Things do slide around on my OEM sprayed bed liner, but it does provide some friction too.

If you're going with a mat, I'd recommend the OEM. I got mine last year from Fred Anderson Toyota during a Memorial day holiday sale. $110 including shipping to the Midwest. You might check them out this Memorial Day. (actually start checking a few days before)

I am not sure why Toyota lists things as Port Installed instead of options as I know my heated seats were factory installed along with the full size spare.

As for the bed liner, I did miss the bed bolts being sprayed but couldn’t find any over spray. The texture is up the sides going under the bed rails as far as my fingers would fit. I would say it is sprayed but at the factory before all the bed trim pieces are installed.

I’ve got both to make my pups more comfy when they ride in the back. They love to be back there under the softopper. As others have said wait for OEM parts sites to have a sale and then pull the trigger. Serra Toyota, Lewis Toyota, and Dothan Toyota are usually the cheapest.

Yeah, not sure where the port-installed came from - the bedliner is listed in the Toyota.com accessory brochure and is likely done as part of the assembly process.

I had to accept the spray on bed liner, no option, if I wanted the truck. Ridiculous on a composite bed, imho... Nonetheless, I always had an oem rubber mats on my trucks. Only way to go, in order to minimize cargo slide.

I have spray on + OEM bed mat.
Already on handed and protects everything and allowed me to have no concerns (other than waiting for the day I crack the lamp covers on each side with something). Things slide around easy enough.

When I don't want things to slide, bed mat goes in. It's a hard friction stop and I've never had anything that weighs more than a pound or two change it's position while driving.

Two approaches for two different use cases
