My wife and I, in the wake of losing my Lieutenant, started a non-profit that helps firefighters in SW Michigan that have been injured, killed, or have fallen on hard times. We hold an annual golf outing that raises about $7k, but I could always use more ideas.

We hit all the local businesses but often feel that they already give so much to our community and have started also targeting bigger fish such as pro Hockey, Baseball, Basketball teams, Minor League teams, other area golf courses and casinos and whatnot.

My question is anyone got any ideas or contacts for more big fish that they wouldn't mind pony-ing up? Like I said this is 100% non-profit. Myself and the board do not make any money off the foundation and we try our damndest to find firefighters and EMT's to give to. We don't want a big bank acct, we just want to help others as even though my Lieutenant was working as a 'safety crew' and using his FD skills, the race track where his accident occured covered their bases to show him as a volunteer so he wasn't given LoDD status and thus didn't reap any benefits for his widow or his three daughters.

I'm also open to suggestions and help if anyone is working on a similar project. Our cheapo website (for now):

My wife did a fund raiser at Chilis and Chik-Fil-A. I think all you have to do is contact them and set a date and then they will donate a percentage (10% I think) to the charity. I beleive you need a charity organization tax # to qualify. I also think I HOP does it as well. Worked out pretty well.
