Are people buying these things? I've been seeing them on transport trailers more and more. I haven't seen anybody driving one that looks registered. I like the idea of a VW van, but the $60k starting price! I stopped reading after I saw that.

When I think EV I don't think VW. There's all that hype around the Scout. I don't really want a $70k F-150 or Tundra, and the Scout is going to be all of $70k or more if the the ID Buzz starts at $60k. They'll be some early adopters if the Scout isn't cancelled before that, after it's delayed but I don't see continued support for an obscure off road oriented EV produced by VW. Hundreds of people can't keep a line of vehicles viable.

It really caught my eye when the concept was first introduced. So many cars on the road are boring. This has a coolness factor to it and the nostalgia is definitely there with the styling. The price was a shocker to me as well.

I don't think VW will sell a ton of them.

Agreed, on sale here in VA for ~$60-70 that # is way too high for me and MANY others I think.

    $0.02, for VW this is:
    • #1 Marketing item (Modern "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" to get buyers attention and in the door)
    • + real world R&D to proof/pay for their other EV ventures
    • Manufacturer street credit for turning a car show novelty into a reality
    • + Give VW credit for another retro cool attempt (Again, a long term marketing investment). Me, I would rather have a Scirocco, VR6 Corrado or Carmen Ghia

I would think you would have a small, niche market to the old hippies, that made some money in life and can’t take it with them, so why not buy a modern piece of their past. If I was in that demographic, I’d consider it. Or a promotions vehicle for weed dispensary.

I like the Buzz, the cargo version really gets my attention no windows. I don't think an EV Cargo van could compete with the other options already available gas or EV. I did see something about Q1 '25 VW EV sales out pacing Tesla sales in Europe, maybe VW is in a better EV position than I thought?

I read the other day that VW was thinking about bringing back the Carmen Ghia.

I’ve never seen one on the road :notsure:

I’m sure someone will or is buying them though.

I've seen a few around the dealerships most of the ones I see are on hot shot trailers coming from the port. I'm sure someone is buying them.
