We just got this truck back after being apart for 18 years, lol

After driving or letting run for 20-30 minutes and letting it sit for 20-30 minutes, when starting it will fire off and shut down. It sounds as it is starting and just dies off. Then a recrank doesn't reflect it wants to fire off. It takes a few start tries and it seems to require pedaling the gas to get it to finally light off. It then runs just fine. Any ideas what could be going on or what to check?

I just thought, could it be a vapor lock going on in the fuel delivery system?

Recent work done post receiving the truck back:

Timing belt kit (Aisin kit with water pump and tension actuator)

Crank and both cam seals (preventative as it has 195K miles and I was in there)

Crank position sensor (it was causing an RPM issue of not going above 2K RPM)

Thermostat, PCV valve w/grommet, plugs (wires looked great), air filter, fuel filter, Rad cap, all 3 belts and lower radiator hose (upper was new.)

Thanks in advance for any thoughts,
    Mike

When was the last time you cleaned the throttle body?

Sorry for the late reply, I forgot to. I had cleaned the throttle body shortly after your suggestion. It still does it. What I have found as a possible symptom... When the tank is almost empty, it didn't seem to do it. I did remove the fuel cap and it still had a long time of cranking before it actually fired up. AND BTW, when it did fire up and run, it was smooth immediately. Not like it is flooding from injectors leaking down.

I would get a fuel pressure tester and do a test when running and keep the gauge hooked up after you shut it off and see how long it takes to drop to 0. If it drops to 0 in less then a minute or 2 then it isnt holding prime. My gut feeling is that your issue is probly your fuel pump

Today, I realized something else as it did it today 2-3 times on me. I pulled the air filter out and gave a short spray of starter fluid. Went to start it and it fired up and ran smooth for maybe 4-5 seconds and shut off. I did it again, put the filter in and started it up and finally kept running. Smooth as silk, it is not flooding through the injectors.

I believe fuel pump or power to it. I found the green relay under the dash, I believe referred to a "circuit opening relay". I'm not sure of the purpose of it being there when there is an EFI relay under the hood. I will start another thread about these relays and their use and failures.

    Thanks, Mike

Idle Air Control Valve. It sounds like on your gen Taco it sits in the throttle body
