Yeah. When I bought mine the MTs were few and far between. I live in Washington and bought mine in Tennessee...

Crawl control in these newer trucks is far more than a gimmick. I’ve watched novices walk through things with this system that an old twin stick double locked trigger would have struggled on, especially sand. The new tech works wonders.

You don’t get Crawl Control with a manual. You do get MTS Multi Terrain Select.

Is the TRD worth ten grand more. If I'm getting an SR it's going to be an Xtra cab, if I'm getting a TRD it's going to be a DCLB Off Road in the 50k range. 37k for the Xcab and 48k for the OR.

    2024 TRD OR long bed
Delay gratification and check out plus try stuff yourself, but I'll offer this from our very long and extensive pre-sales efforts.

If you are doing property maintenance give some consideration to long and short bed. The 5 ft beds were nearly useless for my having to have a work oriented vehicle. Even if someone tells you that you can put a ladder in sideways or sleep sideways consider how much else can't fit that way.

The electric locker was vital for me but the ABS and traction control in modern 4x4s can help. You need the TRD OR package for that. For limited 4x4 use the locker might not be so important. TRD OR with the locker also has bad road and off road friendly wheel/tire combo. For the latter the OEM Trail Terrain TA tires have proven surprisingly great. They are very civil, good in winter, and also for off road use not too extreme.

My wife did not like the non-TRD or not upgrade or premium package seating. In test rides the entry level seating still seemed a great upgrade over our past generation Toyotas.

We have a manual transmission vehicle but for the 4th gen Tacomas the 8 speed automatic is really good for loads, towing and keeping the engine in the ideal power band. I ended up surprisingly happy with the automatic for someone who's mostly had manual transmissions. This point might not be as important to all use but I really like the narrow gap between 7th and 8th for loads, headwinds and climbs.

As much as I'm super happy with the long bed TRD OR I'm glad it is not our only vehicle. I've had many pickups in my life, about 12 years without, and long ago drove semi. If I only had one vehicle I might want it more compact, civilized and efficient than my wonderful long bed. I mostly got a pickup again for a few years where renting one or trailering would be a bother. That would be another point for my suggesting to try lots of stuff.

That I have long trips mixed with short added to my appreciation of the TRD OR with upgrades in the package and single line items. A tangent from my suggesting you consider bed length is I have a Fas-Top (tonneau & topper all in one). For maintenance work and materials plus tools moving it is super nice to quickly have it all covered or open bed.

If you want to save money but want the latest taco then get the most basic of the base models. Because it’s not worth spending additional money. If you’re going all out and want the best then get that premium package.
