yesssss, all three 4th gen test drives - two hybrid - were a huge improvement over my 3g.

it’s then all the annoying niggly day to day usage bits that get in the way …

it’s frustrating they took three steps forward in some area yet two steps back in others.

*three taps WOULD be true (apple music, then Amazon music, then radio) but every time you skip over amazon music, it freezes then goes back to amazon music to remind you to subscribe, requiring another one plus that pause - there is no convenient way to get to FM radio from android auto. but thanks for reminding me of another awful feature of the UI and reinforcing my opinion, lol.

I think you're still on the right track, but that particular tester wasn't the right match. the Auto Trailer Detection uses the Trailer Brake Controller (TBC) to see if a trailer (with electric brakes) is attached.

etrailer.com says that a circuit tester can be used to trick a TBC into thinking a trailer with electric brakes is attached. Test the pin at the 5 o'clock position with the tester (other end connected to ground). Probably needs to be incandescent or neon to draw enough current to fool the TBC.

This tester on Amazon appears to be the same as recommended by etrailer and at half the cost.

For what it’s worth, the auto trailer detection doesn’t need electric brakes, since it works with the 4-pin also. I think it also uses the cameras

thinking back through the steps i took, i actually do think it may have been the camera that triggered it. it may need to see the trailer on both.

Per the owners manual, ATD works using either the Trailer Brake Controller or the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) sensors. Rear Camera Detection (RCD) is more for pedestrian detection I believe.

Is there anything that indicates the Upgrade package doesn't also have the PKSB feature?

The TRD Off-Road Upgrade Package (A/T) it shows "Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking (PA w/AB *", while the Premium package shows the same but also adds "and Pedestrian Detection".
