Asking for a "friend", how much of a PIA is a steering rack? Trying to chase a clunk I have coming from front end, discovered boots are torn on rack

On a 4x4 they're medium sucky. Check the rack bolts and bushings. Boots you can replace without removing the rack, I did it with stainless zip ties because I knew the rack itself was on the way out, but would recommend getting an oetiker clamp tool and correct oetiker clamps if you think your rack still has life.

To be honest, before I take on any sizable task with a vehicle, I always check YouTube to see if anyone has done a detailed, step by step video of the task. That usually gives me a good gauge of the difficulty and usually if there are any special tools required.

that and spray the bolt for the steering shaft and P/S lines with some rust penetrant if you do plan on replacing the rack

So technically it can be a big book PITA..... I went over to drew's house to get mine done and @AllTacosFloat , @super_white, and @tacobell007 all helped. Get all new lines, and fluid and have them prepared so you don’t have to find out that you need the new lines and call around hoping someone has your specific lines in stock. Its like a good 4-6 hour job

Posts are in the ground. Got to 30-32" of depth I got sick of digging. Gravel at the bottom and then tamped the dirt down real good.
They are rock solid. Just gotta cut them down then plop the coop on them.

1-3 week delivery. It was a fresh trade so the dealer (the old Boch South) needs to pay off the lender to get the title to sell it to me. Hopefully no tomfoolery pops up in the meantime.

World Rally Blue, Recaros and just under 18,500 miles. I wish it was a Limited with the sunroof and HK Audio, but this will do just fine as the condition and mileage were solid.

I'm tossing around selling or trading my Tacoma in. I'm kind of conflicted on this.

This is the longest I've ever owned anything with 4 wheels. I wanted to get 10 years out of it, at least.

I know id get a bit more selling it, but, I dont have the patience.

I miss having a real transmission.

Understandable thinking.....but especially.....as of right now, what would you honesty replace it with? The nissan was a prime example and you came back to the Tacoma. Reliability also plays a factor and with the prices on vehicles today, what are really your alternatives?

Absolutely. I originally wanted black like my MY06, but I was showing my older daughter a 1/18 model I have of a VA STI in WRB and mentioned that was the car I was looking for, but most likely black. She drew a picture of it (in blue) with her in her car seat in the back and I decided right then it had to be WRB.

Always. I had a 2017 WRB WRX. Don't miss it. The STI is a different animal, feels like a bygone era (in a good way).

If you, like me, have lost your charger base (or it melted, I can't remember), these would be a nice change out. I have a high capacity that uses a USB A charger, but it's a pain in the butt to have that extra cable. When that cable or battery kicks it, I'll definitely be swapping over to a standardized USB cable that I can use for multiple things :)

Tried the same trick with the one that was cut flush. Dropped a 1/2" expansion anchor and threw a lifting eye on it.

    20250507_094906.jpg

So that broke off immediately. Wtf.

Further investigation and 3 hours with the big hammer drill later, I find out it's because Fuckass (my little pet name for the guy who touched everything in this house last) decided to pot the fence post with 20" of fucking ASPHALT (from when they were doing the driveway, surely) with a little teensy cap of concrete on top to make it look good.

    Anyway.

I got it drilled and chiseled out, blasted some stubs in, and got the HiLift back on it.
