    Hi,

I finally got my '96 Tacoma 2wd with the 2rz running on fuel from its own tank. Installed new fuel pump, sending unit, filter sock, and inline fuel filter. Also replaced spark plugs and wires.

It will fire up ok, but I need to feather the throttle to keep it running. If I let off the gas it dies in a couple seconds. It runs fairly smooth above 2k rpm, but has a bit of a miss in it still. I let it run for 5-10 minutes until warmed up and still no difference. I am thinking something to do with the injectors? maybe clogged, not providing enough fuel to each cylinder?
    Any ideas or thoughts?

    Thanks

P.S. Its been sitting for about 5 yrs, with pretty old varnished gas in it.

Just scanned the truck for trouble codes. Came up with:

P0300 - Multiple random cylinder misfire

    P0301 - Cylinder 1 misfire detected

    P0302 - Cylinder 2 misfire detected

    P0303 - Cylinder 3 misfire detected

    P0325 - Knock sensor bank 1 sensor 1

I am thinking injectors maybe? I am getting spark. Havent done a compression test yet, need to buy a better comp. test kit, the hose on my other one leaks.

    Any ideas?

maybe is the best answer I can give. The problem that I have run into is that getting the injectors tested is about 75% of the cost of putting in new injectors. Maybe a local wrecking yard or shipped from a yard elsewhere is an option.

Ok. I am not sure whether its injectors or?? I was able to get to the front 2 injectors, and they checked out at 13.5 ohms each. However, all 4 plugs are wet with fuel. So maybe an injector is sticking and making it run super rich??

I am going to do a compression test soon, I think that the compression will be ok, but just want to check it out to make sure.

If the tank was filled with varnished fuel, in makes sense the injectors/fuel rail, and filter could be filled with varnish as well. It wouldn't be that surprising if the injectors were stuck one way or another, or working intermittently.

Thanks Cory, thats kinda what I was figuring. I bought another compression tester today, so either tomorrow or thursday I will check compression. I did start it again today and it seems like the injectors arent picking up at low rpms, but it really ran quite smooth around 3k, which also leads me to believe that it is not a mechanical issue in the engine.

There is a guy on craigslist who has a 97 2rz tacoma that he is parting out. Might see how much he wants for injectors and fuel rail.
