It can definitely take a bit. The second go round was in a shop however and it took maybe 3 hours. The first time took place in the bed of the truck under a car port lol.

Great looking truck. I’ll have questions for you when I get to drivetrain and engine!

Hey guys. hoping this thread is sorta alive still. I have ordered a SC for my 3.4L 03 and I have been having trouble finding a good solid base line of other addictions too a magnuson SC to get it correct. Of Course the company said its ready to go on stock with it being the old factory one when they used to put them on.

    Sorry, I forgot to respond.

You probably meant to comment on the TRD3.4l thread. This is my build thread.

Toyota/TRD/Magnuson say this because it’s not possible to actually tune the ECU. You’ll probably need some way to add fuel maybe retard the timing some but you won’t really know until you get it all going.

The 7th injector is popular as well as methanol injection. It really just depends on auto/manual trans, elevation, and how your truck responds to boost.

The bigger thicker rod that the transgo kit has you put in the 1-2 accumulator piston needs to be a little shorter. That will soften the 1-2 shift a little, I took about 1/4 inch off of the rod in mine because it shifted a little to firm for me.

Thanks for the tip. I think I’ll just leave it as is. I’m not really interested in taking it apart again. Not very fun to crawl around on the ground under dripping trans fluid. But I’ll keep that in mind if I ever have the valve body out again.

How has your truck handled the supercharger? Any tuning needed?

I'm tuning the fic6/. But it was 118 degrees today. Which doesn't work well with superchargers. Chasing pinging issues, but getting there slowly. I'm getting 6lbs of boost with stock pulley

Do you have any part throttle pinging issues?

I did for like 50k miles. I had to pull a ton of timing and drive around it with ECT on.

This whole time I wondered about my crank sensor but also had doubts because I didn’t have any lights or anything. I ended up pulling it out a few weeks a ago and cleaned it. Bam. MUCH less ping. It’s frustrating knowing I could have done something so simple and never did for no good reason.

I now pull less than a degree of timing per psi of boost for “safety”

So I ordered a OEM one and its almost completely gone. I’ve gotten a few soft “single knocks” at high rpm with isn’t good but that’s about it.

Just buy a OEM crank sensor. It’s $100 but worth a try.

Found your thread via the SC thread.

Bro what voodoo is this? I might have to try this, I know gadget never figured out why some 5vz's are much pingy'er than others.

Super interesting, I have a transgo kit on the shelf that I've been holding off installing for a loooooong time. I don't have the balls to DIY it, will probably take it to a place I trust in City of Industry. They did my wife's IS250 when no other place offers rebuilds, only swaps and its been great. (GP1 Transmission)

@Shortman5 it might also be your rear leafs? I thought my trans had all kinds of problems (stutter, harsh shifts etc) but it all turned out to be axle wrap even at normal and even slow speeds. I put in a budbuilt trac bar and its all good now.

Don’t know on the crank sensor thing. At the time it seemed to help. But maybe just coincidence? It’s been so long but at the time it did seem to help.

When it comes to all the leaf spring drama I finally figured out that what I thought was seriously violent axel warp is just a worn or factory, or not-so perfect slip joint. I greased the shit out of the slip a handful of times with moly grease and all it did was sling black goop everywhere. I ended up trying a PTFE grease, I believe Prothane Grease (superlube sucks), and have not had the issue since.

The harsh 1-2 was years ago. That still exists but much less than it used to. It’s more bearable but still noticeable thud with ECT on and not bad at all with ECT off. That was made much better by replacing the throttle body. For whatever reason the PPS sensor on these early etcs-i throttle bodies don’t last long on my truck. It almost feels like they very quickly get a worn spot in the potentiometer and get all indecisive. Within a year the new $700 throttle body PPS did the same shit. Thank fuck for sketchy china parts because some Chinese hero decided it would be worth making replacements and they work great.

coming back around to ping my current theory is that the ping is more of a symptom of lugging. When I went to a smaller lighter tire it seemed to help too. I’d like to reGear in hopes of complete my eliminating ping but as ive aged I’ve lost interest in all this. Obviously the only correct thing to do is to go with a standalone. But, I just don’t have the pocket change for that. Not to mention that I have close to 100k miles in the S/C and I’m seriously thinking of going back to stock due to how crazy everything has gotten.
