The storage compartment behind the passenger side rear seat can fit a 10lb Amerex dry chemical extinguisher laid on its side. Tight fit with no movement.

Keep in mind a lot of small "automotive" extinguishers are BC (sodium bicarbonate) and have very little ability to extinguish a Class A (brush/grass/solid plastics) fire. The ABC dry chemical versions use a powder which melts at about 400F and coats the surface of Class A material and has a bit more ability to prevent re-ignition. But they are more corrosive to electronics.

A water based extinguisher like the Amerex 240 is better in those situations where you are worried about starting a brush fire...but they are larger and more expensive. They can be mounted in the Tacoma's bed with a mount though. I like having one for when I go off-road in the dry hills or target shoot off-range. You can add a cup of dish soap for using on Class A materials or there are even some additives that give them some ability to extinguish small gasoline fires.

A low cost/smaller option that is also compact are these small spray cans that contain a Class B foam. I like them for ATVs since they are easy to fit into a small compartment. A good combination to have with a small BC dry chemical extinguisher so you have some cooling to ensure a fire stays out.

A 2.5lb Amerex ABC dry chem will fit there easily. You can also fit an Amerex 5lb dry chem or halon in the actual storage cubby. Someone else said a 10lb Amerex will fit there, but I’d have to see a pic to believe it. I order Amerex extinguishers & handle them often in the fire protection biz- a 10lb fx is roughly 20lbs, as 10lbs refers to the amount of agent filling the vessel & not the overall weight.

I have mine stored like in post #112. But even that could become a missile if the seatback is dislodged. The location pictured here seems too much in the open to become a missile in a crash, IMHO.

My truck is full of potential missiles. Small metal flashlight, Garmin InReach Mini, a folding saw and a hatchet stored behind the back seats, etc. We all run this risk, I guess, and we all decide how much risk to run.

I made this thing out of a generic roll bar fire extinguisher QR and some brackets I bought at Ace. It’s held up fine over the last two years.

I feel ya brother. I have a shovel, tools and other miscellaneous stuff in the back. Heck my firearm sits between the parking brake and the center console when I drive. :quickdraw:

Mine has been solid since I mounted it. My Daughters BF is a Fire Marshal he even told me that he thought it was a good idea and easy to get to.

Makes sense now. I have the JBL sub so just have the driver side storage cubby. I didn’t consider the larger passenger side cubby.
