Just had my 22 Tacoma serviced because tpms display going nuts.Dealer said corroded wire harness that costs 9000.00. They “cleaned it up” so it would work but will happen again and will not be covered. Is that too funny? Keep in mind just 3 years old with 50k

It’s probably had a windshield replaced and it’s leaking. Are you the original owner?

These dealer repair prices I’m seeing are hilarious. That’s got to be a mistake.
MSRP on that floor harness is 380.00 dollars.
Anyone know how much a dash harness is, maybe 900.00?

Windshield never broken. Apparently it’s the “difficulty” of the job replacing the harnesses that makes it so expensive. I have to hope doesn’t get corroded again

How about sun/moon roof? I’ve heard/read of drains getting clogged causing wet floorboards up front.

When they cleaned the connection did they apply any dielectric grease?

Since "they" can get to it to clean it up, anyone can get to it. If it acts up again research or ask on here to try to figure out the connector(s). Order and replace them or find a decent non-dealer mechanic who can do electrical and replace. SHrink wrap to keep water out if that's actually what's happening. It will be much cheaper than trying to go any dealer route, as it sounds like there is no need to replace the whole harness. That's just their easy money-making way out.

Or go redneck and just eliminate the connector and hard wire them wires together... whoooot!

No moon/sun roof. They apparently did grease connection. Just baffling only 3 years old. You would think electrical components would be protected. I guess I am the only one with this problem. Thanks everyone for your comments

I'm normally in the camp that says to replace TPMS sensors to keep the system working. That is almost always the problem, and 4 new sensors only cost about as much as a tank of gas every 7-10 years. But if looking at a $9000 bill to keep them working I'd live without them.

I've never heard of this and would think Toyota would cover this even if the truck is out of warranty. It's a safety issue. Toyota is pretty good about stuff like that. I had a leaking rear window replaced at no cost. I was under 3 years, but had about 40,000 miles on the truck. Toyota replaced a bunch of leaf springs a few years ago at no charge. My truck had 200,000 miles on it and got new springs at no cost to me.

I'd make complaints farther up the ladder and document everything, so they know the problem exists now instead of waiting another 3 years before it acts up again. Hopefully cleaning the contacts fixed the problem and it does not return.

I would probably remove that left kick panel and start looking around for signs of leakage somewhere or at least try and get my head around where the corrosion is coming from.

Unfortunately, even though they are not "required" in every vehicle currently on the road, if they are installed in your vehicle in inspection required states they are required to be in working order (at least in mine). Makes sense huh....?!! :jpow:-world

OP, if you have corrosion there, you have a leak. Water does not get there by magic. There are many threads detailing leaks at this location. Usually a bad windshield sealing either by the factory or at replacement time.

which brings up an interesting point, if OP finds a leak and it ends up being due to something the factory did, I would think OP's extended warranty would have to fix the leak AND the wiring harness. Thats the logic I would try to go after at least...

Screw TPMs. Changed the wheels on my SR 4x4 and light comes on to check it. Put a black vinyl dot over the light. The tire pressure sensors between my ears have worked great for 55yrs.
