Hell if I know. Wood is expensive. Probably cheaper to get 6 ton stands…

Not that this info will help, but last year Northern Tool had 6 ton jack stands for $37 a pair. I bought 2 pair. If nobody else has jack stands for mod day on the 25th, I can drop them off at @Pixeltim's before I head to the Last Frontier. Lemme know.

You should probably drop them off since you might never return…
    Just saying.

I'll drop them off next time I'm in Madison.

I am unaware of that term as of the voice texting of my reply. Lol

Now I can guess what that term means. :D And yes, 6 ton stands are probably much better. I just had a bunch of old crap lying around from the shop so that's what I use.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
That's what I thought...my measurements before my new leafs and tires showed that the 3 ton would only work on the frame with blocks under them. For a few bucks, I prefer jack stands on solid ground.

I mean I'm still doing it on solid ground. I'm not actually using wood or anything.

Maybe my stands have the wrong sticker?

Does anyone know if they ever made extended length 3 ton stands?

Maybe mine are the recalled harbor freight ones.... :anonymous:

With HF's specification of 16 7/8" fully extended, I guess you may get the wheels off the ground with 32s. I've never been comfortable using stands fully extended. Well, maybe my buggy, but fully assembled, it only weighed 1400# and generally wasn't on stands except to swap tires when fully assembled.

That's what I'm here for, the mods and the gear.
I would appreciate this. I will absolutely buy a set of jacks if needed, but since I don't do major work that requires them, they would just collect dust here in Green Bay.

I mean, you could buy a set and sell them to me afterwards for $30 less because then they'll be 'used'. :D

I'll have to check the two sets I have at some point. They've been working for me, but I usually jack the rear by the diff.

Depends on what I'm working on but I'll lift the front of the truck, take the tires off, then lower the truck onto the (3 ton) stands.
Then I can use the jack for lca's or axles.

I do my tire rotations 1 at a time.
I don't trust any vehicle suspended on 4 jack stands, whether they're 3 ton or 6 ton..

You'd probably hate the way I do mine. I put the front on jack stands, then throw the Jack under the rear diff and lift it high enough to get both back tires off the ground, and then I do all four, and then lower it back down. I also usually pull the oil drain plug after I get it up in the air and then replace it and do the filter after I get the tires rotated.

I was just thinking I should probably change my oil tomorrow. Maybe I'll rotate the summer Tires on.:notsure:

Man, in H.S. I'd use logs, cinder blocks, the bottle jack that comes with the car.....
I value life, more, nowadays. lol

I am a little more picky if I'm going to be underneath the 4Runner. :D
