That's what I'm here for, the mods and the gear.
DIY seat delete done. Gonna take it out and see how it holds up bouncing around the north woods. If I'm happy with it, throw on the carpet and some other finishing touches.PXL_20250508_180208936.jpg

I need to do this. However, once in a while I use it as a people hauler... once the kid is gone I think the back seat is gone.

splurged today (as I was thinking about all those amazing streams I will pass this summer in Montana) and bought a fly rod for the truck. For years I have wanted a small rig that won't be in the way and get killed by my clumsy headedness. Bought a Tenkara mini and a bunch of flys from the Fly Shop. Like that it is a 10 foot but stores in a 12" tube! no reel, just peel and pull. This has me thinking about those water ways again... I am ready to be done with this school year! Haven't told the wife yet-she will point out that I have two NICE rods that I never use; but the point is to get something that won't get destroyed in the truck.

I don't know anything about fly fishing.
I use an ultralight for trout...

For regular fishing I wanted a St. Croix rod, after I broke my Berkeley.
I never owned one and always hear how good they are.
My Berkeley rod broke by having it in the truck and for that reason I went with the less expensive Ugly Stick.
    (Also had heard good things).

Oh there will be some mods all right
I buy ugly stick rods and a cheap reel because I am hard on things and there is no way I could ever have a rod that cost as much as a St Croix rod and still be able to enjoy myself lol.

Relentless Fab hybrid bumper, 2.5” Dobinsons IMS lift, RCI skids and sliders, block heater. Painted FJ Steelies. Was trying to keep it stock, now slowly building for the Wisconsin trails.
Mine has pretty much given up completely. Almost left me stranded. Thankfully some percussive maintenance got it going. I'm changing it out today.

Make sure and keep the old one.
    My core charge was $4. $4? o_O
They'll do what I did and clean it up, except they'll resell it for $180.

Should be able to clean it up for a spare.
At minimum, I saw rebuild kits for like $30.

    Edit: $15

Just do like I do and build something you can install and remove easily, so you can put the seats back in when needed.

I have some nice light graphite rods for casting. I started buying store brand rods years ago, because you get a lot more bang for your buck.

I prefer Ugly Stik for live and cut-bait fishing. I have a few catfish setups and a surf rod, and one super heavy shark rod, and they're all great for the purpose.

I move around a lot because my fishing holes are usually good for a few good fish and then it's on to the next hole.
Rod gets tossed in the bed, @LarryDangerfield style, because I don't want to break it down every time.

I tend to abuse mine plenty. That's why I buy store brand rods: they're cheaper. My spinning rods are mostly $40-60 rods.

Out of all of the rods I've broken over the years, most have been broken while fishing, usually by me doing something stupid. Sometimes I run from spot to spot, and shove them in the back window of the 4Runner while driving. But, I haven't broken one this way yet.

Ugly Stiks rule for toughness and flexibility. But, they get heavy when you're casting all day long.

Same here. I got the Ugly Stik Gx2 cheapie and threw some Panther Martins in the chest rig I have for wading.

It works great for my kid to use everywhere else cause it's so small and light.
