Well its lunch time so "ghost" story time. My parents first home was in the ghetto in San Jose, Ca. 1970's San Jose was not the "Silicon Valley". So I am like 5 years old when this is going down...I was one of two white kids in my kindergarten class and regularly had to fight my way home from school cuz the vato kids would jump me alot. For me, it was normal. lol
Anyway, our house was a tri level. You walked up steps to the front door and it had an entry foyet. Stairs going up to the left and stairs going down to the right. The evil lurked down stairs. Downstairs, there was a family room to the left where the sliding door to the backyard was located. To the right was a laundry area at the end of the hall, a bathroom to the left, and my Dad's office/study/drafting room to the right.
So I will bullet point the incidents that scared our family out of the house.

    • My Dad was showering in the downstairs bathroom one night after his night school college class. Upon exiting the shower he was drying of in the steamy room and felt a hand on his right shoulder and at the same time the entire room went ice cold. My Dad is a Vietnam Vet. He's a hard case and will fight anyone anytime. He has told this story several times and says he immediately started weeping and praying and asking whatever it was to give him privacy since he had just gotten out of the shower. It eventually went away. He says it felt like a lifetime and it was only like 20-30 seconds and he never used that bathroom at night again.
    • We had two dogs at the time. Two mean ass dogs that did not like anyone other than our family. When we would try and walk them, in the backyard at night, both dogs would get to the very last downward stair and stop. The hair on their backs would stand up and they would go bat shit crazy barking down the hallway. My parents would have to grab them by the collars and drag them to the family room where they would calmly wait to go out the sliding door. My brother and I were not allowed to help with walking the dogs after dark.
    • When upstairs, the dogs would always sit with their backs towards us and stair at the upward staircase. Like they were waiting for something or someone to come up. They would also stand and look through the railing down at the foyet and the opening to the downstairs area. Always on guard.
    • When my Dad was out of town. I vividly remember something scaring my mother so badly that she gathered my brother and I into the master bedroom, upstairs, and locked the door. She was terrifed and crying and she just sobbed while we watched TV until my Dad got home. The whole family slept in the room that night. My Mom said we were camping indoors for fun.
    • My parents had some religious folks, from church, come out and do a bunch of praying and stuff in the house. My Dad says, "it didn't do shi* and we moved shortly after..."
    • There were mirrors on the ceiling in every bedroom, dead bolts, and locks on every door.
    • My Dad found an entire pallet of dishsoap, (still in shrink) buried on the sideyard. The pallet was like 4ft tall and directly buried in the ground. It made zero sense in any way shape or form. It was a 5' wide sideyard.
    • My Dad found a gun and knife buried in the back corner of the backyard.
    • My Dad found live .308 cal rounds buried in the front planters. Not in boxes. Just piles of buried brass.
    • My Dad found rubber dinosaurs nailed to the entire length of the roof peak on the second story roof. Like a parade of dinosaurs the entire length.
    • I used to have a bad dream in the house. A reoccurring, very dark dream. It was night time. My parents and my Aunt and Uncle were upstairs having a normal visit in the upstairs living room. Meanwhile, my two cousins, my brother, and myself were fighting off these shadowy figures coming in waves from downstairs. We were on the foyet and fighting them with shovels and throwing them out the front door. Meanwhile the dogs are frozen like sphinxes at the top of the upstairs staircase just stairing into space. It was a never ending dream until we moved. It tapered off after a few years away from the house. I am 53 years old and still remember it down to every detail. I can still feel the air all moist and sticky and not being able to breathe and the sheer terror and panic cuz the adults were just chatting away doing nothing.
After we moved, my parents went back to have dinner with our old neighbor. A truck driver who's nickname was "Black Rose". Thats what the kids called him and thats what his truck said on the side. Cool ass dude. He divulged, to my parents, that the house was used as a drug and whore house prior to our moving in. There were several violent crimes on the property and a person was murdered on our front porch. Given all of the evidence and circumstances and weird stuff I just described, that place was haunted and it was not a nice entity living in that home.
I drove by it once about a decade ago and didn't get any vibes. Just fuzzy memories of riding bikes out front and having fun with the other hood kids.
But, the memories described above are laser etched in my brain and never get fuzzy for any of us that went through that weirdness.

The dogs are what scare me the most. They can feel stuff.

I'll ad more if I remember anything else...

(EDIT) I FOUND THE OLD HOUSE ON MAPS! Looks just as bad as when we lived there but, its now a $1.1 million dollar shi*box. Because San Jose...
That tiny side yard, on the right, is where the pallet was buried. Like it had been lowered into the ground by a crane and buried just below the surface. So weird.

Some scary shit. You sound like me growing up in Oakland. Basically I say trust your instincts, that has saved my ass numerous times. And even more trust your dogs instincts. Not only are some of their senses far superior to ours, they have senses we don’t understand or even know of. My dogs have saved my ass on a number of occasions. I recently related a story here that took place up in the Tahoe national forest where my dog sensed things far beyond anything my senses were aware of and maybe saved my life.
    Got more stories? Post em.

On the topic of Bigfoot…I was watching a podcast the other day where the host was interviewing a former Air Force guy who was an instructor for years at their infamous SERE school.

He said that it’s held in the wilderness of Washington State and all the students are provided a US Govt. issued pamphlet that lists all the indigenous wildlife in the region, and whether they’re dangerous or not. He claims that Bigfoot is on the pamphlet and listed as very dangerous.

The host of the podcast started laughing because he thought it was a joke. The AF guy did not laugh and said he was dead serious. Makes ya wonder.

Definitely some creepy stuff. That dream sounds horrible and Im glad it finally stopped haunting you in your sleep.
    Thanks for sharing your story.
You got that right. Gotta trust those instincts especially dogs
This is why a lot of people that have had bigfoot encounters/sightings rather stay quiet because how some people respond to these stories.
    Curious to see that pamphlet.

Gotta keep your head on a swivel in Oaktown. That is for sure. Had guns drawn on me on two occasions there. Once, after an RHCP concert at HJ Kaiser arena and once when I used the wrong pay phone in a shopping center off of MLK. Dude said I was "on his phone". 1990 something...

I only had the dream once as an adult. And it was the exact same dream. Not sure what sparked it. Maybe I had been telling the house story to my new wife, at the time, or kid or something.

So the recollection of my youngster years, living with some sort of dark entity, got me thinking about when I usually divulge that story. Its usually a camp fire kinda' thing. When my kid was younger we'd camp quite a bit and he'd bring friends and always want to hear about the haunted house and my hospital stories. ( I have worked in healthcare for 30+ years.) 90% of the hospital stories include naked people, blood and guts, or poop and pee. One or two include being scared outta my own skin.

Story one is science based. I was working in the basement morgue referigerator and one of the bodies moved and farted. I screamed like a tween girl and launched myself out the door into the hallway. The veteran Engineers got a good laugh at the apprentice learning the hard way about what dead bodies do sometimes.

A few years on, the same morgue is involved and I am now one of those veterans manning a graveyard watch at the hospital. We would do rounds in the building monitoring equipment and utilities. It was while doing these rounds that another encounter with the morgue scared that crap outta me.

I was headed back to the Central Plant in the basement. The basement is full of hallways and little nooks and mechanical rooms, etc. Its a big 300+ bed hospital so there is alot of square footage down below it. As I am passing a hallway on my right, I see someone or something peaking around the corner at the opposite end. Like just a head and an arm really quickly taking a peak and then popping back out of sight. This hallway is probably 50 - 60 yards long and at that particular corner is the morgue. At the end it connects to another parrallel hallway making a large "square" of corridors. I catch the shape as I pass the hall, stop dead in my tracks, turn 180 and go back and look up the hall. Nobody should be down here after hours. I walk up the hall with my chest all puffed out and a big mag light in my hand like I'm gonna' do something brave. I get to the end and peer around the corner of the morgue and the back hallway is empty. I heard no doors open or close. No foot steps echoing. Nothing but, silence and the hiss of a tiny steam leak above my head.
So I retrace my steps and head back and turn towards the Central Plant again. There is one more hallway to my right before I get to the plant. The other side of the "square" of corridors. Again, out of my peripheral vision, I catch someone or something pop out from the end of another 50 -60 yard long hallway and "look back at me" as I pass by. Now I'm spooked but, fake brave.

I head up the second hallway towards whatever popped around the corner. I get to the end and look to my right, towards the morgue, and again the area is completely empty. No door sounds. No feet running. Just that steam leak again. Super spooked, I retrace my steps and high tail it to the Central Plant to go sweat out the rest of my shift, alone, at night, in a basement with a morgue in it, where I just saw some stuff.

I was in my twenties so I could still see and I'm not sure what I saw. We rolled bodies out of that place on the daily. Maybe someone stayed around to scare the ginger kid. Needless to say, I was happy to get off that shift.

Creepy for sure. I had my fair share of times when I had to take some quick trips to the morgue when I first started working in the hospital in the early 2000s. Very uneasy feeling to go or even walk by the morgue. There is a patient that I bump into regularly here at work that is a mortician. He played for the 49ers years ago as a offensive tackle and now does this as his job. He has told me some really creepy stories. He is always trying to show me pictures of his work which I always tell him not too lol. Crazy how some people work with the dead.

Agreed had 2 dogs but I'll start with the first, had a lab mastiff mix. absolutely the most gentle dog unless someone weird was around, or near my wife or kids. me he didn't seem to care and was calm not a dog who barked unless he felt something was off.
one night in my house that old dog was absolutely passed out asleep on my floor in the living room there is an entry way that you have to pass though to get to my living room, the dog came off the floor full speed went to my front door full on barking and growling, bad enough that I thought something was in my front yard area. grabbed my pistol and reached for the door and my 120 lb dog pushed his way between the door and me. then stopped barking instantly ran to my back door which is off the same entryway just farther back. same thing growling and barking, again this dog is chill 99% of the time. my wife yells down the stairs asking what's wrong our other dog had barricaded her in our kids room between her the that door on the opposite sides of the house. our 2nd dog come flying down the stairs and goes to the door off the backside of the kitchen absolutely loosing her mind. She was the younger, and much more verbal dog but again super protective of me and the kids my wife she normally didn't seem to care about the same way but again barricaded her in my kids room. and my wife only got out of the room due to my dog cutting back towards my sons crib and holding there. this goes on for a couple min the dogs barking and growling and blocking the doors. my wife now on her phone watching the cameras and I'm flipping lights on searching out the windows I see nothing. I finally get between the dog and my front door I'm outside now flashlight searching and clearing my driveway and property, in a very specific way from prior life experience, and those two dog absolutely go up and over this berm area , and are "chasing" something around the back of my house and come around the front full speed barking and snapping all they way down to the end of my driveway, both of them stop at the end of the drive and stand their fully tensed like they are waiting for me to tell them to go. they stood there after a while I finally got them to come back in the house. and those 2 dogs set off my motion cameras all night in my house patrolling, and both my wife and I slept horrible that night. the last and only time that has happened at my house.

After that I would have slept with the dogs in my bedroom and my gun next to me. Looks like you’re 8n Oregon. Oregon has a lot of Bigfoot sight especially around the Siskiyou’s.

I feel like we are both in healthcare to some capacity. We need a thread for naked people, blood and guts, and poop and pee stories!

Gotcha. What my wife's Uncle reported in his story about his encounter was very much like others you hear. An off putting skunky smell but, not skunk. More body odor mixed with death. That was what he smelled before he started hearing trees snap and stuff getting wild and scary for him. He was in the bush pretty deep and the smell and noises followed him all the way back to his truck. Like he was being "hunted" he said...

you know normally my dogs slept in my room, or outside of the kids room. that night they were downstairs all night. again i treat my dogs as members of the pack, and are welcome to sleep in my room, or wherever they decide

You can see humanity at its best and worst. And you see things that are humbling. And you see miracles. I am glad I got out of the hospitals and manage other sites for our organizaton. I could not take the downer stuff anymore. Especially the NICU stuff. My son was one of those tiny miracles. He was literally in my NICU at my hospital. He was not supposed to make it. He did. Many of his NICU roommates didn't. Its the kind of stuff that makes you want to have a long conversation with God about the stuff that goes on on this planet...and why...

I do miss the action though. The pressure of responding to truly important and life and death situations. Now I just keep the lights on for delicate geniuses in their cubicles...
