I owned two 1st gen’s and had a 2nd gen for a dozen years with a LOT of hard off pavement miles.

The refinements in frame, suspension, and comfort in the 4th gen are orders of magnitude better than previous trucks I’ve owned.

I like both the 4G and 3G, but for different reasons. I really liked the torque available in my 4G, when the tranny worked like it should. But it started slipping almost overnight a couple months back (March '24 build date) and almost got my wife and I T-boned in an intersection. My dealer needed a long time to get parts, which was annoying since Toyota has known about the transmission issues for a year. That, coupled with my frustration over the trailer brake controller not working all the time and door panel rattles and squeaky hinges on the drivers door, saw me trade the '24 for a like new CPO '22. I understand why folks talk about waiting out the first year or two of a major redesign - my truck suffered from that in my opinion.
The 3G is just simpler and I like that. Yes, its not in the same league as the 4G with the available power. The 4G is like a little diesel, and that's very nice. But the 3G goes just fine, and its proven reliable, so that's what I"m looking forward to now. In a few years after most of the bugs are worked out of the 4G's, I hope to be able to buy a Hybrid DCLB without having to pony up for the TrailHunter trim level. But who knows, I really like the '22 and if it doesn't give me any grief, I could see me keeping it a long time.

Generational squabbling between tacomas is entirely a waste of time. I like my 3rd, my brother has a 2nd and its great. When my 3rd needs replacing ill happily test drive a 4th and see what its like. I'm happy you are happy with your truck my dude.

I’ve loved all of mine 1,2,3 gens for all different reasons but by far the 4th is my favorite bc it doesn’t feel slow with the hybrid and the premium package makes it feel really nice to live with. All gen’s have held their resale values over any mid size trucks so here we are. Oh what a feeling Toyota

For real. Just turned 100K and feel like its just getting broken in. Expect to be back in the market say, 2028 or 2029.

The best gen is the gen you own.

I feel like the 4th gen has leg room in the rear than the 3rd gen and 2nd gen.

I wish they had option to put the Seqiuoa v6 hybrid engine the Tacoma.

The design is kinda growing on me.

Here in California it seems a lot of Prius drivers have transitioned over to the hybrid taco.

    Kinda like a fungus…. :D

The more I look at the 4th gen the more I like them. Really hadn’t looked until my ‘17 got rear ended and likely totaled due to frame damage. I should find out this week. Bought in ‘16 and just at 99k miles.

I’ve been impressed with my 4th gen hybrid test drives.

Right? My TH was $65K. I have the title in hand. I definitely didn’t want to buy an older clapped out truck, even if grandma owned it.

They’re better for some. The 4g is better for others. Comparison is the thief of joy

I drove my brothers 2003 DBSB SR5 V6 last week… There is no way I could drive that thing everyday.

    This new engine drives amazing.
