A Civil PE allow you to work for your self. Depends on what field you work in. Last I looked the wages are about the same after the PE. The masters delays 2 years of experience. I would say go work and see if or what you like to do, then see if a masters is needed or desired. Work is different than school.

I've been working full time while getting my masters online, just looking at next steps, Utah requires working under a PE to get your PE, haven't looked at the requirements in other states

I build websites for a living (specifically, I write HTML, CSS, and JavaScript … for about 20 years now).

Good, so you know the work you are getting into.
In California you need 2 year on the job experience under a PE and get several letters of recommendation to take the PE exam, last time I looked 20 years ago.

CA PE requires 6 years of experience but education counts as four. CA Civil PE here who took advantage of that requirement.

The experience part not the education.
