I, and others, have picked up low-mile, free or cheap takeoff OEM suspension to not be on jack stands. My truck isn’t a DD anyway.

Fox will rebuild the TRD Pro Fox shocks, turnaround is 2-3 weeks @ $175/ shock. Ian2016@shockteq rebuilds

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/members/ian2016.173116/

much faster turnaround and less $. Hope this helps. May also help you source bushings if that is all you are looking for. He also has a spare set of TRD Pro shocks that he will send no you don’t have any downtime. Hope this helps.

Yep and I'll bet Fox will install brand new shock bushing to boot.

I came up with 90389-A0001. I have them, and they look correct, but have not yet installed them so I can only be pretty sure about that. I think they were $25 or so each.

My local guy said he could retain the OE valve - but he'd have to buy a $400-500 tool from Fox, and wanted me to pay for it (understandably, since Toyotas in general are pretty thin out here). I'd have to assume the Fox service retains the valve there but can't say for sure. I went with the drill and tap option, although I did eventually swap the MY17 setup for MY23 takeoffs as I wanted a liiittle more lift without resorting to spacers or aftermarket suspension parts.

Thanks for this info. When I reach the point of needing a rebuild, I’m going to make sure I ask if they have the proper tool or if they need to drill and install a Schrader valve.
Inform me - I didn’t know there were changes to the TRD PRO Fox suspension across the 3rd gen years other than stickers on the outside. Do you have specs with part numbers or years?

I didn’t know this either. I have 50k on my original Fox TRD Pro Shocks and thinking of rebuild only because it is suggested. Although I’ve heard that they can go much longer. The shocks feel fine, only an occasional squeak when I bounce the bed. There is a part of me that is saying “if it ain’t broke - don’t break it”.

I think it was a MY22-23 thing - whenever it was that they had the red forged UCA's (my guess is they needed a bit of geometry correction and coil clearance - otherwise, what a weird place to dump development costs..). I didn't measure exactly but they looked to be about 1/2" or so longer when extended. P/N on these guys is PTR61-35220.

They're pretty firm on the lighter 2G AC (something like 200-300# vs. a DCSB 3G?), I didn't put many miles in the earlier setup, but the butt sensors say it was more plush/compliant. I'm keeping the MY17 setup just in case I want to revert back as I have only put about 1000 miles on it; it's fine on the street but want to do some time off pavement before coming to any final conclusions.

You'll also notice that the earlier model year springs are grounded flat vs the newer being rounded.

Did they change that before MY22 or were the springs ground flat up until then?

    It was a MY19 to MY20 change.

I think the flat ground ends were breaking off prematurely in some rust belt areas so they went to a full coil. The full coil has been known to create some squeaks but doesn't break.

Interesting. Did the update to the springs only affect the ends and they're otherwise the same as the earlier ones?

Now that I am actually looking closely at the pictures, the newer versions look substantially different..much longer installed length, appears to be progressive rate with tighter coil spacing on top. Wire may be thicker as well but could be the brighter red paint; I didn't measure that (yet).

Edit: Also I believe this thread has been officially derailed!
