Looking for a little advice. Any recommendations between PLA and PETG for a spacer cube between LED light pods to go on a roof rack?

im planing on a 3x3x3 hollow cube, with one opening to connect 5” led pods. I need to put alan bolts to connect the block to the light.

Originally, I was just going to use the brackets that came with the lights, seen on the bottom of them but they’ll have too much space to fit all the lights on the rack. Doing the math, not a practical test. I’ll still see as my mathing skills suck.

PETG is a little stronger and UV resistant vs PLA.

That what I had been reading too but just wanted to ask here.

I’ll have to buy a roll of petg but it’s pretty cheap. Luckily the Bambu A1 can print with it

I’d maybe consider a filled petg. Either glass or carbon. I’ve noticed it helps with part warpage and strengthens a good amount

Carbon fiber will need a hardened hot end according to Bambu Labs.

Thanks ordered a roll of the CF PETG and then a first design of the block.

Good to know. I’ve got a .4mm harden nozzle to work with. I think it’s .4 maybe it’s .04… one of those.

    Thanks for the advice!

I just had my first attempt at running ABS-glass fiber:anonymous:

I only wound up wasting two grams dialing in the temperature profile, but once I understood "set your bed to boil and your nozzle to sear ," it was a surprisingly easy print.

Left, shiny ABS-GF. Right, PETG that's been left in a car engine for three weeks. :anonymous::anonymous:

    PXL_20250510_123353871~2.jpg

It's too bad that this print is getting buried in the intake tube. The glass gives it a weird sheen. I never thought "glitter matte" was possible, but here we are. It's pretty enough to be used in a decorative piece. It's also every bit as brittle as glass, yet insanely strong.

    Alas.

    Finally!

Some actual progress on my 3D printed full size B1 Battle Droid........

The last week or two was spent on seemingly endless post processing; primer/filler, sanding, spot filler, sanding, primer, repeat.

But I finally got 3/4 of the parts ready for 400 wet dry then silver/metal, then B1 tan. But before the 400 wet/dry phase I had do some initial fitment for the neck and head joint.

The B1s are a lot taller than I first thought:

    IMG_20250511_190708064.jpg
    IMG_20250511_190736915_HDR.jpg

The hole in the front of the chest is for the PIR that will trigger that speech/electronics in the back of the chest. 1 of 104 or so B1 related nonsense
