Fun little bikes. I'm about ready to sell mine and move on to something new. Lots of good times with her.

    Congrats!

I got one of those rear wheel straps too, works a treat. My only complaint, and it's the same with yours, is it's bunched up in the middle. How big of a tire is it designed for? Doesn't affect use at all, but just bothered me it didn't fit

    No never sell the TDUB!:D

It's only a 14" wheel but as you can see it's like an atv tire. It held very securely. As far as what it's designed for I dunno?

Last April when I camped for a little over a week in the N GA mountains I had 3 guys camp next to me 1 night. They were all on TW's and were doing the Smokey Mountain 500. They can be had for less than Groms around here. I need to start dreaming of those

Dude they have an almost cult like following, just cheap fun. Git mine brand new for $5500 out the door. Dealerships here sell out of them quickly. A good clean used one brings almost as much as a new new one at resale.
Tons of after.arket parts and support for them. The bike has been in continuous production since 1987. They aren't fast but just chug along and will go through or over just about anything if your not into the go fast thing.

So here is another reason why I went with the TDUB. I'm just a casual off roader, I'm not a highly skilled dirt bike rider but I do enjoy the sport. So at one time I was looking at some of the Chinese imports so that I could get back into trail riding without spending a lot of money. But to get something decent the prices started to get up there. And then the trade wars hit and the reality of being able to get parts as need became questionable. So I started looking for a used Japanese bike but there wasn't much out there that appealed to me that wasn't a full on race bike as that's just not me. So I considered a few, xt250, klx300, etc. I chose the TDUB for its durability and bullet proof reputation, low seat height, and low cost. And it suits my casual intended use. After riding it a bit today I think I made the right choice. It's a toy for me. There's a lot of these bikes out there and people seem to love them. And for a lot of people they are not enough. They are both a beginner bike and an ending bike and can be anything in between as long as you don't expect too much from the little bike. For me it's just going to be good cheap fun and a bike I can tinker with and accessorize and make my own as I usually do with my stuff. So is it the perfect bike? No, probably not. But for me at my stage in life of 65 years it is. It puts a big grin on my face and that's all that really matters isn't it?

Awesome! Congrats on the new bike!

If they ever fuel inject the TW I'd consider one, even with my hatred of chain maintenance. It's the only "off road" bike that appeals to me.

I actually like the simplicity of a carb and being able to work on it myself. Remember the k.i.s.s, keep it simple stupid.
I think the reason they haven't fuel injected it is because it's grandfathered in as far as emissions go, or so I've heard.

If I were any kind of mechanic and had a garage/shop+tools then I might not care. As it is, I just don't want yo mess with a carb. Especially living in the rockies. I could change several thousand feet in elevation from one day to the next and I don't want to be tinkering.

Fully agree my buddy had one on his parents farm and it was perfect to do that and ride around in a small town.
Haha I still think it would be fun to have a few buddies with grooms to just cause chaos with haha

I've seen one of these on the road so far. Half of the light was failing and flashing at a stop light. Kinda like those cheap LED ropes where half are dim, missing lights, or flickering.

The instructor I had for the rider course was asked about them. He likes the idea for safety, but said at least here in WA they aren't actually legal. Something about attaching something to a helmet that extends more than some distance. But without looking into it, that sounds like it might be illegal to have a GoPro mounted, which a ton of people do. Shrugs.

But yeah, I would question the quality of them based on the one I've seen. There was no way it was very old.

Water pump rebuild was a success! Actually pretty easy, only had to fight 2 stripped screws holding the top of the housing on. Took it for a ride and it feels good, but the rear brake makes a weird rubbing noise like the rotor is warped. I replaced it last year because somebody forgot to remove the chain I use to lock it before starting the bike. Oops. Might have put the wheel back on crooked, don’t really know. I know car maintenance but bikes are still relatively new to me so it’ll be a good learning experience at least!
