My truck had a filter cap that seems like a ceramic one. It wouldn't come off even clips broke. Dealer over torqued it probably. Tried another adapter it still wouldn't come off. Ended up having to hammer it out with a chisel. It still wouldn't turn so once top piece came off, with a screw driver I hammed out the piece still on the threads. I'm wondering if I should get a new housing since a part of the thread looks like it's chipped or maybe that's how it is original. The other parts of thread look fine. I installed new aluminum filter cap and it seems like it's locked in there but will check for leaks next couple of days

I assume that if you have used a breaker-bar, the filter housing or cap would have come off- as long as the housing's rotation is done CCW, of course. But not that it's too late, just make sure that the new housing has a perforated metallic tube in the center. The new cartridge is pressed down on the tube and into the housing or cap. This perforated tube supports the cartridge's middle or center and prevents it from collapsing.
