My thoughts have always been it's better to be a hair under than a hair over.

It’s a Party Ball! Anyone here remember those?

Actually, vacuuming a quart out from the oil dipstick tube is a great idea. If OP wants to save money, get a long fish airline tube and siphon it out- the oil pan sits high enough to gravity siphon it out. It’ll be slow but will still work. There are also fuel siphon accessories for sale at local auto parts stores that would also work.

Something like this but with much smaller diameter tubing:

Just fill to the mark. There is a possibility that you have the wrong dipstick in the engine. People do weird things at factories and dealerships.

If the oil filter has been changed then it holds about half a quart. When oil is reintroduced with a new filter then it should be filled, engine run for a few minutes then topped up. But 6.2 max usually does it.

There is a slight difference with oil filter capacity depending on the manufacturer.

Oil foaming and oil pressure with too much is a problem. Not sure what level that starts at in a Tacoma.

I watched a You Tube channel with an eccentric Russian guy put too much oil in a clear sided engine to see what happens. That was interesting and very messy.

A lot of good points discussed here. Just for peace of mind and to avoid any issues later, I’m gonna drain some out until it’s the correct amount.

Could be lazy and leave it but if anything were to happen, I would be sad and angry… I don’t like to be sad and angry, potential future me will be thankful I avoided a costly mistake.

You have a fumoto valve installed, right? That makes this a super simple fix. Attach tube to fumoto, drain out a quart, profit.

I also use this exact jug and have the levels marked in black sharpie for my vehicles. Works great!

Whatever you end up doing, good luck OP. Without a fumoto, the oil changes are always messy. I can't imagine taking a smaller amount out without it literally going everywhere. Wear a white painting suit or clothes you'll just throw away because it'll go everywhere. I love the access but hate the mess.

I must be older than I think I am. I did not see a Fumoto valve mentioned in the OP. What did I miss?

A good friend of mine who was a fleet mechanic asked how much oil do you think is still sitting in the oil pan at 80mph. He felt it was better to have a small amount over. Keep in mind this was a Chevy 327 we were dealing with at the time. Maybe the same principle.

Na. It's just those with Fumoto valves are much like the MT crowd. They log into TW with the specific intent of sifting through threads looking for a reason to mention it, no matter the stretch..

Forgive me if you're running one, or both.. :D

    It wasn't mentioned by OP.

I commented that I wasn't going to reply (Post#27) but then I saw @rtzx9r question whether OP had a Fumoto. (There's always one!) lol

It doesn't hurt to mention it but I figured OP did not have Fumoto considering the suggestions OP was getting.

Seems like Fumoto is a triggering word so I understand the pushback.

I'm here to learn and have noticed thread discussions have their own unique tendencies.

At 80 mph you're doing 2000-3000 rpm depending on gearing, not particularly stressful for the engine. The engine works correctly with oil level between the high and low marks on the dipstick. Having more oil past the high mark doesn't do any good, but potentially causes harm. This is unless you have a noticeable leak somewhere and just want to reduce the frequency of top-ups.

:goingcrazy::facepalm::gossip: ….and did you have to go and mention that word 3 times?!

Naw, really, a good idea if he did have one already installed. Personally, I wouldn’t be able to use one if I kept my steel plates on, but for street trucks they are a good idea.
