My Tacoma’s drivers seat is starting to show some where and is not as comfortable as it use to be. Before I start taking things apart, I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this. I would like to swap my front seat bottom cushion and cover with the passenger side. It looks pretty easy. Google wasn’t very helpful.

That’s not a bad idea, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. I’ve r&red a few seat covers before but never on a Tacoma. It’s a pain to get the cover back on just right but if you don’t get in a hurry you can probably figure it out.

Unless I get a definitive “no it won’t work”. I think I’m going to try it when it gets a little warmer around here.

Wow hadn't considered that... of course my wife probably wouldn't be too happy. Very interested if it'll work.

When I installed my seat heaters The seat covers are easy to work with. your going to need a good pair of side cutters to cut through the hog rings take your time and it can be done. Wait till you get a nice warmer day and the sun will help relax the fabric

When I modified my driver's side seat foam, I didn't cut my rings, just pried them open with a needle nose pliers. If you're moving the foam and covers, you should be able to move them without taking the cover all the way off the foam. I just don't know if they are shaped the same, side to side.

I did it in a 1st gen, didn't think it was possible to do in a 2nd gen due to all the electro gizmos and airbag nonsense but if it's possible I would like to know also.

Someone with access to the parts breakdown would be lovely to have here, so at least you know which parts Toyota thinks are interchangeable between the seats. Surely there are some YT videos out there of people doing various jobs on those seats so you can see for yourself what’s involved, what the guts look like, etc.

At that point you could also consider what parts, if any, you could just get from a junkyard vehicle so you can do more remove and replace than swap. Maybe you’re trying to do this as all labor and no parts cost though which I get.

I'm poking around and can't find the correct part number for the drivers lower pad, but the ones I can find are all around $120 at McGeorge Toyota. Not sure if you're looking to spend anything but it may be worth it to buy new becuase you know it'll fit and you know it'll last longer. Plus less work since you're only taking apart one seat. If you call McGeorge parts, they're really helpful at finding the correct part number.

here’s a pad for the rear seat. Just an example of the nomenclature and price

Vintage thread, but I looked into this swap a while back. It looks like a nightmare. The only vid I found on YouTube is sketchy with the dude mumbling to himself half the time. I think I'm gonna roll with a nice seat pad or covers instead before it wears out too badly.

I took my seats out last summer to have look. To me and the time I had to mess with it. It was just too big of a PIA. Good luck if you try it. Post up some pictures too if you think about.
