This is my first time here, but I'm a long-time, die-hard Tacoma fan.

I bought my '97 4wd about 25 years ago and have been driving it ever since. I loved that truck. My wife and I went everywhere in it when we were dating and first married. My kids were all little in it, lots and lots of memories.

A drunk driver blew through a stop sign and t-boned us at high speed, so the truck is a total loss. We're out of the hospital and recovering now.

I'm not a new-car kind of guy. I find what I like and keep it forever. That old truck was amazingly reliable over the decades. I took very good care of it and in the end I think it took care of us; we're lucky to be alive as hard as we were hit. I'd never been in an accident before.

My friends tell me that I'll need to find comparable trucks for sale to show the insurance company or they'll low-ball me. Any ideas where to look for good comps?

Once all this is straightened out, I'll be looking to replace it. Emotionally I want another 1st gen Tacoma, but realistically I'm thinking 2nd gen. I want 4wd though I don't really need it. The Xtracab was getting pretty cramped as my kids have grown up, so I'm also thinking 4-door would be nice, though I do occasionally haul some plywood or lumber, so a really short bed wouldn't be very practical. I haven't had car payments in twenty years, so finances are a limiting factor.

Anyhow, rambling a bit now. I look forward to meeting some other Tacoma enthusiasts here. :)

Welcome, sorry for the loss of your truck but glad you and yours are reasonably alright.
