2020 Tacoma non JBL Kicker Key 200.4 and Taco Tunes Add Amp Harness Install HELP

I capped the yellow wire with heat shrink. But I did notice that the radio and screen above steering wheel stayed lit after I shut off truck. Idk if I wired it incorrectly… I had to pull the fuse from the relay to shut it off in meantime.

And that is the male end from the amp, the radio plug is in the female end.
Any idea why the rough sound?

Set auto-turn-on to 12v.
When it’s set to DC, the blue wire becomes an output and once the amp is on, it will keep sending power to the red wire, which will keep the radio on

Turn compression off, and make sure the little button labeled “radio detect” is off

I think it works like a charm now. Sounds good. Do I need to tune it with that mic? The file I downloaded was just scratch haha

 

Yeah go to kickers website and you can get pink noise files. Pretty sure there’s a QR code in the manual you can scan, or a link in the digital manual.

don’t play it over Bluetooth. Play it over CarPlay if you can

Wow @destin_meeks hooked you up!!! How does it sound now, major improvement? I'm about to order the Kicker Key and attempt the install myself. Hopefully @destin_meeks will be around to help me out too if I end up in a sticky situation! Did you just order the Kicker Key and install it with the harnesses it came with or did you need more (amp wiring kit, metra wiring harness, etc...)?

If you want to solder, you need those supplies. If you want to use butt connectors, you'll need a wire crimper and a 20-pack of red/pink butt connectors and just a handful of yellow ones

then the mounting brackets for your speakers and wire adapters

 

To avoid splicing into your factory wiring harness, Crutchfield recommends: PAC LPHTY02 LocPro Advanced T-Harness T-harness for adding an aftermarket amp, LOC, or signal processor to select 2018-up Toyotas without a factory amp at Crutchfield
Is this not necessary with the Red Wolf wiring harness?

 

Correct, you need very little of that large expensive harness. So the redwolf gets cut in half and you're all set.

 

Call me crazy for having questioned your recommendations. To be honest I'm just stoked you're still on here helping folks like me out who may or maynot be qualified to do a simple install like this. I was kind of just hoping crutchfield had found a gap and closed it with a total plug and play harness. Too good to be true I reckon. I've ordered the Kicker Key 200.4, the redfox harness, and the amp install kit you recommended. Stoked to slam it together in the coming weeks! Hopefully I'll figure it out and I wont be back... I should have probably ordered some heat shrink with it..

 

Only need heat shrink if you're soldering

 

I went with butt connectors with low heat solder in the middle, so no soldering required, just a heat gun. I'm pretty excited about them.. I did notice on the Kicker Key wiring harness there's two red's and two black's? Should I just wire both of those to one red to the battery and one black to a proper ground bolt?

 

That is correct

 

it'll be an awkward butt connector with two wires going in one side and one out the other, but I think the glue ought to do a good job of melting and sealing up the connection. I may wrap it with some electrical tape too if it doesn't look completely sealed. Thank you @destin_meeks

 

Forward progress!! I think the harnesses are ready. I just need to pull the stereo out and run the power wire through the firewall and the ground to a good ground bolt. Finding time for this stuff is a challenge with the kiddos.

Ahh, step down butt connectors would have been smart! I'll keep my fingers crossed that these will suffice with the solder in the middle and the glue on either side holding the connections together.
