Is the 4 cylinder prerunner rear axle the same as the v6? (2005-2015)

I realize the ring and pinion ratio is going to be different. What about the actually size of the ring gear?

Basically I'm trying to determine if the strength of the rear axle is the same regardless of engine selection- assuming it is a prerunner.

Also, what about the leaf springs? Are they beefier to accommodate a high tow rating/tongue weight?

Perhaps a link on all the axle information would be out there? I'm curious to know what the actually ratios are, too.

    Thanks in advance.

Oh, would someone possibly know if the rear axle is at all the same as the Hilux?

In short the axle is the same as a regular V6 axle(not the TRD rear locker), but the ratio for the 4cyl. is 4.10 and the V6 ratio is 3.73..Ring gear size for all 2nd gen Tacoma's are 8".. As for the Hilux I don't know

Good confirmation. The link I posted just said Tacoma 95 and up- it did not specify if that included second gens.

It seems that some v6's, the ones with lockers, get a 4 pinion design which is obviously stronger. I suppose it needs it to handle the axle being locked up.

The tow rating is the same for the v6 though whether it's a 2 or 4 pinion...

    (I'm thinking out loud)

I may swap a v6 in to my Tacoma down the road when parts are more readily available. This is partly why I'm asking these questions. I want to know what all needs to be changed to actually achieve an equivalent tow rating and this was the one thing holding me up.

Of course, that would be a funny conversation with law enforcement when they read the tow rating on the body says 3,500 but then you gotta explain to him that no, no, you see officer...

the i4 6 lug trucks all have 4.10 ratios and all have the "8.4in" axle. (prerunner or 4x4)

v6 6 lug trucks that are NOT the trd off road have the same "8.4in" axle but with a 3.73 ratio. (prerunner or 4x4)

TRD off road trucks (only came in v6 6 lug) all have the 8.0in elocker rear axle in a 3.73 ratio. (prerunner or 4x4)

the 8.4in diff is stated to be stronger, it has if im not mistaken more bolts that hold the ring to the diff itself, and bridge caps for the main bearings to prevent deflection. That stated the only people i have seen bust the 8.0 elocker are those who beat the shit out of them on bigger tires.

(8.4in is in quotes as its still really 8in but its a different axle vs the elocker axle, 3rd members between the two axles are NOT interchangeable)

nd4spdbh is a 2008 trd OR 4wd rear axel assembly the same as a 2015 trd OR pre-runner axel assembly?? Both have e-lockers and the exact same axel and transmission codes of A04B/A750E. Thanks

From everything I have read should be a direct replacement.
