Anybody used one of the airbag setups on the 4g yet? Experiences/reviews?

in my 97 4runner I installed airbags that fitted inside the coil spring. I think they were Air Lifts and were very affordable. They were great but eventually started leaking.

I’d be okay with occasional replacement. Thanks for the post

That video doesn't have much detail. He is a member here. You can try to DM him. Ask him for a video with more details. Just a suggestion. I would be interested too.

I had overload leafs in my 09 taco" gave me a little lift but were horrible without a load.. when I purchased my 16 tundra I used air bags in the rear.. life was so sweet with those bags.. if I needed to carry a load just fill them up when empty just deflate them. Made absolutely no difference in the ride when deflated

Yes, air bags are wonderful because of their adjustability. Had them in my 2g taco. want them in my current 3g.

I thought they'd be super easy to install but did require taking off coils to put in the block required for the air bag to sit on.

Are dobinson setups quickly adjustable for different loads? Or just designed for constantly hauling weight? I don’t want to stink bug around all the time just to ride well when I have bikes in the bed. Airbags seem great for adjustability

While I don't have a 4th Gen, I don't see how I would go without them on my 2nd Gen when I have my ATV or snowmobile loaded up with gear. I was looking at what was available for the 4th gen, seems like Air Lift Company makes em (Part No. 57386). They have an install video on youtube, just seach 57386 air lift. There is also the Firestone Ride Rite kit #2599.

Here is my take on it. I added a camper, at 350 lbs of constant weight added to my bed, the rear dropped significantly with my stock rear springs. So I set out and got me a set of 821 dobinsons. I raised my rear about 2.50 over stock. My ass was ay up high. Even after I loaded up everything for my camping setup my ass was still about 2.25 inches over stock at around 650 lbs. So, I had to switch the 821s for 819s. With the 819 with my constant weight of 350-400 lbs, I end up about 2.25 inches over stock but when I add the rest of my camping setup I sendup with about 1 or 1.5 over stock which I love. I have a 1.25 lift in the front so the truck ends up leveled fully loaded. You really have to figure out your weights and select the correct spring. The truck rides perfect, my jeeper friends have commented how good the ride is compared to their jeeps. This is the stock 4th Gen OR Tacoma. I researched air bags and the cost, complexity, maintenance, and functionality was not necessary for what I am doing. I do off road with my full setup and so far, I continue to be impressed and love it.

    • Rear Coil Spring Specs:
      • C59-869V (30mm - 1.25") Stock Load / (Stock Height) 50-100lbs
      • C59-817V (55mm - 2.25") 50-100lb Load / (30mm - 1.25") 175-330lb Load
      • C59-819V (55mm - 2.25") 175- 330lb Load / (30mm - 1.25") 440-660lb Load
      • C59-821V (55mm - 2.25") 440-660lb Load / (30mm - 1.25") 880-1210lb Load
      • C59-823V (55mm - 2.25") 880-1210lb Load / (30mm - 1.25") 1400-1600lb Load
      • C59-825V (55mm - 2.25") 1400-1600lb Load / (30mm - 1.25") 1800-2000lb Load

    Seems rad.

for you. I don’t want all the lift when I’m carrying zero weight just so that I have a good ride height when I have 800-1000lbs worth of bikes and camp gear and tongue weight.

Makes sense if you are not carrying anything in the bed most of the time. Definitely a different use case than mine.

Found these at etrailer. They seem to have been around for a long time.

My concern would be whether or how much they impact articulation of the rear suspension. Someone asked the question of support, but didn't get a great ansewr.
