Purchased my tacoma at 33,500 miles and noticed the infamous timing chain leak forming when putting in a new bumper. I have 1500 miles on the truck, going to the dealer tomorrow to start the warranty process. Wish me luck.

Thoughts on where to go from here? I’m still coming down from my leaky wrangler hangover…

Oil pan is usually next. I had the same issues on my last Tacoma but not until like 90k miles.

Thats a sweat, they won't warranty that. Toyota requires a droplet to be forming.

That said, it wont get better, so even if they don't say know, just ask when the warranty for 5 years 60k/100km expires.

Judging by the second pic it looks like it’s coming out of the inspection plate. That square plate allows inspection of the timing chain, I think it just has a rubber gasket. Id check and tighten it first before you do anything.

Thanks for the help yall. Hoping it’s just the inspection plate as well. I was worried warranty would argue it hasn’t “officially” started leaking out the bottom yet.

Warranty is up for the truck at 45k miles.
Will update on what dealer says later today, I’m just praying they don’t try to gaslight me on the leak.

I dont see Toyota doing any there either as it is not dripping. However, it is good to lodge the complaint for record keeping in case later you need to reference it. Good luck. I've had some minor seepage over my 90K miles but nothing dripping.

I agree with others it looks like the inspection plate not the timing chain cover. The dealer will sort it out for you “no leak found”.

Showed the service advisor my photos. The first tech that inspected my truck stated no leaks.

After getting a master tech involved, they agreed the inspection plate needed to be replaced. Got that done and put dye in the oil to check if it’s leaking elsewhere. Tech said check in a couple hundred miles and come back if I find anything.

Gotta love apprentice mechanics on a hot Friday afternoon :)

If you request a master tech and are denied, always have that documented before you sign any service document.
