My Tacoma will not go into reverse anymore. It started by being difficult like there was something blocking the shifter from going left past the detent. But it would eventually go. Now it won't go into reverse at all and the shaft spins all around when attempting to put it in reverse. All other gears work fine. Almost 200k miles. Haven't had any popping out of gear issues or anything like that. Shifter isn't sloppy.

anybody have any ideas? The picture I have is of the shifter when trying to go in reverse.

Update: just took the shifter out and inspected the bushing at the bottom of the shift lever. The bushing seems pretty tight. It was difficult to get it back into the housing because it was so tight. So I imagine it's ok...I did see the rubber ring that the larger round piece sits on. Looks ok as well...but I did find out that if I pull up while trying to go into reverse it does go in just fine. What am I missing?

Update: it appears I'm missing a piece on top of the rubber ring that's letting the whole shifter go down too low when trying to get in to reverse. Going to go buy a shift bushing kit and replace both pieces .

Update: got my new seat and bushing kit from advanced. The bushing seemed way too small but the seat looked right. Put the new seat in and everything working like it should.

Right on. I haven't had any issues other than this, thankfully. I ordered a new nylon bushing and seat from advanced, cost me 50 bucks. Should get it in next week. I'll update when I get it in. Thankfully it's really easy to change.
