How do you track when your next oil change is due?

I just write the date and mileage I did the oil change on the new oil filter with a silver Sharpie. Next change for me is always 6 months or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first. I have a note pad document for the history. Oil/Filter is always some brand of synthetic 5w30 and an OEM filter:

I change both my 11' Tacoma and 21' Tundra at 5K mile intervals. Pretty easy to just keep track via the odometer. But I also use the trip meter.

A = Annual Mileage
B = Oil Change Mileage/Interval

And record everything in Excel for my personal records. Don't reference this as a reminder though.

 

I keep a log for each of my vehicles and my adult kids in my Google Keep.

Everyone involved with any particular vehicle is also added as a collaborator to that Google Keep note.

All the Dates, mileage, fluids, quantities, filter PNs, oil change and wheel torque specs, as well as other commonly replaced items (ex.. air filter, cabin filter) are all included in each note.

I also place the typical oil change sticky plastic film reminder to the window or rearview mirror.

My '17 Taco also has the reminder setup in the Infotainment system for oil/filter change, cabin air filter, engine air filter and tire rotation.

 

I don't. Waste of time.

Trip B on the dash, and a spiral notebook in glove box. All maintenance, repairs, tire rotations, part numbers all logged.

 

I write the next oil change mileage on a piece of masking tape and tape it to the underside of the storage bin door between the seats.. change out every 1,000 miles which comes out to around every 6 months due to short trips/towing.

 

Umm.. don't yall have a maintenance reminder that pops up every 5k?

I change the oil, reset the light and let the car worry about it

 

Silver sharpies are one of the best things to happen since black sharpies.

 

For all of you using your tripmeter: That's all good and well until your battery dies or has to be disconnected for some reason...just sayin'.

I can’t believe how many people are disregarding Toyota’s recommended 10k service intervals. If they read this and find out you are changing your oil too often they could void your warranty. 10k all day! But I’m a stickler for the rules.

 

Do people not just remember when to do it? I think the built in reminders are annoying and a waste.

 

well then you have to immediately pump out all your oil through the valve cover, weigh it and calculate the volume accounting for typical combustion cycle losses, send it to the lab, wait for results to determine how much viscosity remains, accounting for any fouling particulates, and meanwhile vacuum out any remaining oil and fetching a new battery, then...fuck I forgot. What's next?
