There's this issue with my Tacoma where she'll start the first time in a day, but then die immediately and then not start again, she doesn't even fire. This is that issue where you fix it by turning on the key, slowly depress the accelerator to the floor and back up again 2-3 times, then she'll start. The first time this happened was about a year ago, then it happened again last month, then last week and then this morning. Obviously I need to replace something here, but what exactly? Is it the pedal assembly itself, such as this, or something else?

    Thanks in advance.

I can't see an APP sensor issue causing a no start.

What code(s) are you getting if any?

Is the security light next to the clock flashing with the key on when it won't start?

Have you checked if the throttle body is dirty/sticky?

Have you checked fuel pressure when it won't start?

That ALMOST sounds like what some do for a throttle body relearn? If so, could it be a throttle body problem (or communication with throttle body)?

I have not, but I assume there's none at this point since I've tried spraying starter fluid in the throttle body when it's in this state and it will run enough to burn that off.

It does indeed, but how does one verify that? And why would it need to relearn more and more frequently? I guess I could start hunting for damage to the wiring harness.

Have you tried just cleaning your throttle body (or checked that it's clean)?

you can check to see if your Throttle body opens and closes with pressing the pedal. take the intake off the throttle body, turn the key to on, but dont start the truck. press the pedal and the throttle body should open and close. you will need a second person for this. thats an easy way to check to make sure its working as its suppose to.

So you have a fuel issue not a throttle issue.

You didn't mention what year your truck is or what engine you have but the easiest thing to check would be Connector IB1 Pin 8 (Black/Red) behind the drivers kick panel and see if the pin is burnt as that's a common issue.

It does not open, I tested this the first time it happened by putting my phone there taking a video.

    No that's Connector 1F
IB1 is behind the left kick panel.

I never tried so just curious. If it's key-on (so not turned all the way to start), would the throttle body respond to the gas pedal in fly by wire?

Like I would have thought the throttle would just set to whatever opening it thinks it needs to initially start (instead of opening and closing in response to the throttle).

Most do but some have to be put in a "check mode" with a scan tool, I haven't tested if Toyota does or not.

    Looks pretty clean from here:

I had an image of the socket that looks good enough locally, but every time I upload it there's zero contrast, you'll have to take my word for it but the pins look mint.

Any other ideas on what to look at? On the bright side, I found $5.25 in change under the door sill cover.

Plug it back in, backprobe Pin 8 with a needle or other suitable tool, and see if you have power there during cranking when the truck isn't starting.
