Old school! Coaster brake. It's actually a smooth and efficient traveling machine! A neighbor had it out at the curb for free. It needed some light maintenance and cleaning.

this was my project in '23. police-auction bike, kept the gyro for crazy tricks, and added a disc brake mount. growing up, bikes with disc brakes were always ridiculously expensive. only the snotty rich kids in town ever had anything like it. now i add them to every bike i can to make up for it.

the caliper was changed to one of the Amazon 'mechanical hydraulic' units, as the avid caliper just didn't have enough stopping force in it with all the added friction from keeping the gyro. actually works amazingly well, and allows me to keep the speed dial 7 lever and gyro. if it wasn't for the gyro, i'd have a hydraulic caliper on it.

my next pending project is another police-auction bike. a motiv rockpoint. most importantly, it's got rear disc brake tabs already.

current plan is to take it a lot further. inverted 27.5" front fork, air rear spring with lockout, and upgraded everything in between.
