Went to open the passenger side rear door on my TRD Sport and notice a sloshing sound. So I assumed the door drains were clogged, I've had this happened with previous vehicles, no big deal. I then noticed that the drain holes had plastic plugs, pull them out and out came about a gallon of water. I can't reason why Toyota would plug these holes. Has anyone had this happen? I think i'll just pull the other door plugs so the door can a least drain naturally.

Mine has those plugs in the door drains as well. Should they have been removed during PDI by the dealer?

I remember seeing these too on my '25. Are they to keep the doors 'square' when they close?

I don’t have water in my doors…so no need to pull them. At least I’ll know how to drain the doors if I drive underwater. :mudding:

My wife's '21 Corolla had these and I removed them after reading a similar thread on ToyotaNation. No issues 4.5 years later.

I'm not sure what I'll do when my 4th gen arrives..... leave them in? Pull them out? :notsure:

They are called dust covers. I only know this because I work at a Toyota Assembly Plant and was on the door line a few years ago. They are suppose to be there.

I gave a very close-up look at the plugs in my doors today. The plug itself is shaped like a squarish half-circle (squircle?), kind of like a USB-B plug you would use for a printer.

The plugs obstruct about 2/3 of the drain hole diameter (which is more or less circular) but they do leave about a 1.5-2.0mm gap for water to drain out. So in theory they don't interfere with draining rainwater.
