I’ve recently been hearing a very faint grinding/rubbing noise coming from the back of my vehicle. I couldn’t figure out what it might be for the longest time but I eventually diagnosed that it might be the drums. However it doesn’t get worse when I brake. All the research I’ve done says that the sound should be worse when braking if it’s the drums. It’s only been very faint for me and the only time that I’ve heard it get worse is when I took a sharp turn fast. About 4 months ago I crashed the truck and the back left tire went into a guardrail. I thought I fixed it all up but clearly this is damage that I haven’t addressed. Any ideas what could be causing this noise?

Rust on the backing plate touching the drum with shift in load.

Any history of the rear wheel bearings having been replaced?

You can acutate only the rear shoes with the parking brake handle, turn it and keep it turned so that the ratchet does not lock and pull it out slowly going down the road and listen and feel the brakes through the handle. There isnt enough weight in the bed of the truck to have the LSPV actually put much brake pressure on the rear brakes under normal conditions, thats why rear shoes last 150k miles.
