Anyone here running a rear leveling kit?

Instead of lifting the front to match the rear, why not lower the rear to be level with the front? I get that the rear is higher for when there is a heavy payload/ is compressed but lowering it to be level with the front wouldn't be too much.

I’m not trying to turn the truck into a lowrider or anything, but I don’t want to run large tires and by dropping the rear just a little bit would allow smaller tires to not have such a large gap in the wheel wells. You'd also get a lower center of gravity and maybe a few other benefits rather than lifting the truck.

I know it’s not the typical approach and it might not be for everyone, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

Anyone know of rear leveling kits or lowering options out there?

Would love to hear how it could be done.

should be as easy as a custom spring. Call up hyperco and I bet it’s not insanely expensive

Good idea, so you're saying to check if Hyperco already makes a spring, based on 4th gen specs, that would fit our trucks and level out the rear?

I'll give them a call and see what they say.

In the meantime, if anyone has insight/specs on our rear springs or a spring that would do this, feel free to chime in.

They probably don’t stock one, but they can make a custom spring for pretty much any application. They probably have stock spring specs and can engineer the difference

This could be accomplished by sinply removing a leaf from the factory leaf pack. However, you'll lose some carrying capacity. Could also introduce harsher bottom outs. You'd need to ensure your bumpstops are the limiting compression factor and not the rear shocks.

Edit: Just realized this is for 4th gens
Essentially same length coil with a lighter spring rate than oem

Shorter coil is possible, only reason I didn't recommend that option is due to the possibility of the coil becoming unseated if it is too short during full droop scenarios. There would be more changes needed.

I got your new shorter coil springs right here... One at the spring equals two at the body. If you want a 1" drop, take 1/2" off of the coil length - not (necessarily) half a coil, half an inch. Spring rate will increase, but if you're only doing a 1" drop it shouldn't be noticeable. Lift/heavy load springs are $250-300. Don't know if anyone is selling shorter/softer springs. If they are custom, it may be more than $300. If your cut springs don't work out to your liking you could probably get oem springs somebody took off to go higher/heavier for a bargain an get back to where you started.

Lower the rear. To level. So basically you want to "lower" your new Tacoma.

    Response from Hyperco:

"Thanks for contacting Hyperco! Unfortunately, we don't have the springs you are looking for. I have listed a few dealers below I feel can help with your project.
    ToyTec : 1-303-255-4959
    Locked Offroad: 1-833-562-5332"

Will try contacting ToyTec and Locked Offroad and see what they say.

Also will try contacting some existing companies who already make lowering kits for the 2nd/3rd gen about doing a rear leveling kit for the 4th gen.

Looks like SOS Performance makes one:
    https://sosperformance.com/products/tr2037-2-front-35-rear-lowering-kit-fits-2016-tacoma

If anyone knows some other companies that might be a good fit please feel free to chime in.

Don't forget to adjust your headlights so they don't blind oncoming drivers. Thank you in advance.

I've seen this done on F150's and people called it the "reverse level". It was easy on an F150 though because of the leaf springs and factory block. I thought about lowering the back but can't figure out how. I doubt there will be enough demand for someone to make a spring specifically for reverse leveling. For now I've thrown a couple of sandbags in the bed.

    Quick question.

Why the fuck does anyone want to level a truck anyway?

Want something level, buy a fucking car that doesn't have a big open boxy thing at the back designed to carry heavy things and do work.
