That’s correct, but I think you meant to type “cover” vs “camera”. Unfortunately it just blocks the camera when tilted up with the prop rods.

Help me understand why you need the bed camera view for when the cover is tiled up?
Wouldn’t you not drive or operate your truck when your cover is folded in the up positon?

They're referring to the digital rear view mirror camera, not the bed camera, though that would also be covered.

It would be handy to retain use of the rear view mirror with the cover folded up, but certainly not critical.

This is correct. There are two cameras, bed view and rear view mirror cam. The latter is what’s obstructed when folded up. Not critical but would be nice to be able to see when in the up position.

So I’m still failing to understand the issue. Is it normal to drive around with the bedcover retracted like that? I’m new to the truck world so my knowledge about bedcovers and driving around with it opened is small. Even without the digital rear view mirrors that weren’t available in trucks in the past you couldn’t see it anyway with manual mirrors except by using the side mirrors.

I suspect you're misinterpreting an "it'd be nice if it were different" comment into something it wasn't intended to be...

Thr beauty of the OE tri-fold cover is that they give you full access to the bed. They fold into 3rds and lean against the rear of the cab. Very useful for large loads where you need the full bed.

Toyota has this neat camera system that allows you to see the bed contents on the main entune screen and a separate camera, right next to it, that makes the rear view mirror a monitor (see pic below for an example of how it looks). They work really well; however, when the OE tri-fold cover is folded up, again to give full access to the bed, it sits upright just so and blocks the rear view mirror camera. If the trifold cover had adjustable prop rods, the rods that hold in the up position, it could tilt back a little further and give access to the cameras. But, the position of the prop rods is fixed in how they attach to the cover.

Now, imagine a scenario where a load in your truck blocks your rear view mirror. In many cases, the camera system would still allow you to see what’s behind you. That’s why I think it’s a missed opportunity for a good product to be a great product.

Last comment, I love the tri- fold cover, but if I were to do it again, I believe I’d look at the Al Roll up Cover, which would solve the issue fully.

Be sure to research the longevity / durability of that one, I've seen reports of delamination in other forums.

No personal experience though. I'm just expecting a >$1k bed cover to last several years. My 2017's OEM trifold is still fine, though the seals could stand replacing. I fear I might find myself disappointed with whatever I put on my 4th gen when I upgrade.

My truck has a Truxedo Truxport soft rollup. Great cover for ~$300. It has a rubber flap/flange that sits on top of the tailgate (maybe 1.5” x width of tailgate). It did stop the power tailgate opening so I simply sliced off 0.5”. Job done.
