As title states, I have a 2012 and getting ready to sell it (bought a 2018 taco) and I want to fix the horn which has never really worked. A couple month ago I found it only works when the wheel is turned but when its straight it doens't. I'm pretty sure its the clock spring but I just want to be sure first before I get into it thanks!

My bet would be clock spring. Does it have cruise control and/or stereo controls on the steering wheel? If so, do both of those work?

Just keep throwin' money at it.
Symptoms match the clock spring. If the other controls on the wheel (if you have them) like Kozy mentioned don't seem to be working, that is the usual culprit. Its not a hard job. Borrow a wheel puller from your local auto parts box chain for free and make sure you disconnect the battery and drain any electrical current in the system before you start.

Radio buttons and cruise control work. Odd but still thinking clockspring. Any more guesses?

It's the clock spring. Hold the horn pad down and turn the wheel. See if the horn comes and goes

There's separate wires in the ribbon for the individual circuits. The horn circuit is broken but the cruise and radio are still intact, that's all.. if you gave it time the other stuff would stop working too

    Easy test:

Push and hold the panic button on the remote. If the horn honks then the horn itself is fine and it's the clock spring in the steering wheel (which is a common thing to fail after several years). Those are the only 2 ways to activate the horn on these trucks.
