    G’day Guys,

I am an Aussie that’s relocated to Hawaii for work, managed to get myself a 2007 Tacoma Dual cab pre-runner long bed, for a reasonable price.

It currently has 111k Miles on the clock and runs pretty well, with no major concerns.

I’ve gone through all of the documentation in the glovebox and ascertained the battery was replaced last year and there has been regular servicing by a local mechanic. I can only see routine oil and filter changes The paint on the bonnet, wing mirrors and roof has seen better days, but that’s a later job. The tyres are BF Goodrich All terrain T/As that look like they’ve got a lot of life left.

My question is what should I do initially to ‘Baseline’ my truck and provide assurance that the big ticket items have been done?

I’ve already replaced the windscreen wipers, de oxidised the headlights, throughly cleaned the glass using 0000 Steel wool and run two bottles of injector cleaner through the car in the week I’ve owned it. I’ve also got a Pioneer head unit with Car play and a reverse camera (steering wheel controls don’t work). I added a soft cover this afternoon

I am assessing that I’ll need to do a standard oil change and filters (cabin and clean the K&N cold air intake filter), is there anything else you would immediately prioritise? I’m thinking Brake service (I’ll pay for this professionally), Transmission fluids, rear differential fluid and power steering.

    Any other recommendations?

I'd add brake fluid flush, power steering fluid flush or slow replacement (i.e. sucking out from the reservoir and replacing with fresh a little at a time), grease any/all zerk fittings and check brake pad thickness.

I bet its nice not being upside down anymore! Guessing it'll need a fluid change in the front actuator, totally forgot about that on mine for a while.

Ohhh that Hawaii paint...gotta love the sun! Change all fluids so you have a "starting point" and then have the brakes looked at, and go from there!

Thanks for all the advice lads.

Coming from owning Hot Hatches, it's amazing to finally own a real truck.

Love this thing so much more than I thought I would.

I'm looking into fixing the paint too. The old girl deserves some love!

I'm much deeper down the Rabbit Hoke now.

Got the Mechanicals sorted, had a mechanic look over my work and told me that I've got plenty of miles left in the girl.

Work done on truck so far:
New sound system (sub amp the whole works)
Replaced most of the interior touch points
Serviced 120k miles (routine stuff, plus new spark plugs
    New tray cover
    New tyres

Items bought but haven’t installed yet:
    New side mirrors
    Door handles
    Bedsides - fibreglass
    Grille
    Headlights and wiring harness.
    Tail lights
Front and rear cameras (tailgate camera to replace the licence plate one.

I’ve got it booked in to be resprayed next month.

But I’ve done all the work myself so far and learnt a lot!

Nice thing about a tacoma is it has space for all your Steve Irwin (RIP) memorabilia and any stingray hunting/kangaroo repelling gear you might need.

Also you can fit alot of shrimp for your bbqs in it.
