Had to have my rear window replaced because I was stupid and didn't secure a load (first time and last time I'll ever do that).

After a fight with my insurance company, they finally put in an OEM part. Upon inspection I pointed out to the installer (Safelite mobile tech) that this part of the rubber trim isn't in contact with the cab. He said "it'll settle" which I doubt is true at all but didn't press the issue.

I realize that this doesn't seal the window from leaks, but it will over time get gunk in there.

Would you consider this a problem or am I overthinking this?

I honestly wouldn't worry to much about this. The urethane is what seals the window in. If it does bother you I would get back in touch with safelite about it though. Unfortunately going through insurance they 90% will send you through safelite. Yea im sure there is some good techs there but me personally I'd steer clear from them. BTW I've been a glass installer for over 18yrs.

TRD Urban Assault model needs a .50 BMG on a pintle mount in back.

Other than that -- what about using a hot air gun set to maybe 250ºF and trying to carefully warm up & soften the affected area? Could that help it relax or would that just screw up the urethane sealant inside the joint?

Lol I put those dumb stickers on when I first got the truck 13yrs ago. They will be coming off soon. And heat would possibly work.
But you'd be surprised how much shit gets behind there even with a tight seal on the molding.

I personally would put a piece of masking tape next to and parallel to the seal/opening, pry it open, and put some black RTV in there. Obviously, it shouldn't be like that, and it shouldn't require any RTV, but it's a five-minute fix; I'm old enough that I save my battles. The reality is that if you fight with them and he comes out and does it again, he'll probably fuck something else up 10X worse.

I would never get the glass replaced by a "Mobile Tech". Seems kind of like asking for trouble with trash, leaves and bugs etc...
I'd rather put up with the inconvienence and have it done in a nice clean controlled environment.

That's debatable. Tacoma rear windows are a cake walk. Try a ram power slider. Total install time is roughly 3hrs. Its all about how well you clean everything. Attention to detail and prep makes a huge difference.

    Thanks for your input, everyone.

I'm glad to know it's not the end of the world either way.

This whole thing has been a learning experience and I would do a lot differently if I have to go through it again. I did not realize that these mobile techs, and safelite in general was below par, but after having gone through it and seeing the original part they installed and the install job... now I know.

I will probably get some RTV as you mention here and just touch it up myself, as it does kind of bother me but I have a feeling that you all are right -- if I tried to have safelite fix it, there'd just be something else messed up.
