    Good morning!

I’m hoping someone on here might know if there is a simple wiring harness to hook up an aftermarket cd player in a 2020 Tacoma. I don’t need the steering wheel controls or backup camera retained. All I’m hoping to find is a simple harness that has 12v, constant, ground, remote, and the 4 speaker wires. I’m an old guy just looking to hook up a regular single din stereo and an amp for a small subwoofer.
I’ve added a subwoofer to the stock radio using a kicker loc, and I’ve upgraded all of the speakers, but the sound still isn’t great. I had to use the front speakers to tap into because the rear speaker signal didn’t work very good at all. I’d really just like to find a wiring harness so I can upgrade to an aftermarket cd player without splicing into any of the factory wires. I’ve searched all over the internet and the only harness I can nail down is $104 dollars! It’s a CRUX SWRTY harness on crutchfield and it’s made with all of the extras to retain steering wheel controls. I like Crutchfield a lot, but there’s gotta be a simpler harness with just power, ground, and speakers. I’m just wondering if anyone else has hooked up their stereo and found a simpler harness? Thank you all, I really appreciate your help!

Looks like the 'Zon has that same harness for closer to $70. https://www.amazon.com/SWRTY-61N-Replacement-Retention-Vehicles-2012-Up/dp/B01BM3QGCO

Its not as simple to wire things up on these new cars. That kit does have adapters for everything you need, not just steering wheel controls. Antenna adapter, USB adapter, and aux adapters. I do understand that you may not want/need these but the new stuff just doesn't let you bypass things like the old days.

Thank you! So this may be the only choice I have these days. I appreciate the information!

Okay, called CRUX and they said this harness only fits up to 2019. The one Crutchfield sells is a 61C. Just seems crazy that this is the only harness available in the whole wide world. I mean every single person on earth that has ever installed a aftermarket radio in a Tacoma above 2019 has ordered the same harness from Crutchfield? There’s only like 30 reviews on it. The guy at CRUX said you don’t have to hook up the steering wheel controls. But If this is the only harness on planet earth, I guess I would just hook them up. Just kinda crazy that nobody makes a simpler harness, but maybe it’s true cause I’ve definitely looked for about a month with no luck.

Might be worth calling a few stereo shops local to you and asking for their input? I'm sure there's at least one that has done what you are looking for.

10-4, that’s a good idea. And I might try to contact Metra to see if this one would work. Definitely worth asking.

Your aftermarket radio will have a harness. It probably will have RCA outputs for your subwoofer amp, so you won't need to "tap" into the front speaker outputs anymore. What you will want, then, is to get a Metra Harness that will connect the factory wiring to your new headunit's wiring harness. You'll want to take your time and solder / heat shrink all the connections for a good fit.

There's a separate unit for adding steering wheel controls.

    Metra 70-1765

I used Metra Harnesses to add a Kicker-Key 200.4 to my factory Headunit. Took a while to do the soldering, but once my harness was assembled, installation was a breeze...

That’s definitely what I’m looking to accomplish. Just want to use rcas off of the new aftermarket radio. If this Metra part number will fit, it could be the answer. I’ll reach out to Metra and ask them if it fits a 2020. Thank you!

How are your skills with a soldering iron, wire-crimpers, and heat shrink?
Perhaps building your own harness is the way to get what you want...just a thought.

    Cheers

Metra says the 70-1765 should work. I guess I’ll order it and give it a try. I’m a little skeptical because I’ve heard that the plugs on a 2016-2019 are different than the 2020. I’ll let y’all know when I get it if it works or not. Gonna be about a week or so before I order it. As soon as it gets in, I’ll see if it plugs in or not. I appreciate everyone’s help, and I’ll keep you posted.
