Shortening Maxtrax Mounting Pins

Does anyone know if it is possible to shorten the maxtrax mounting pins to only have 1 section. when you only have 1 set of boards, there is really no reason to have 2 sections on the pins. The top section sticks up too high, looks dumb, and provides no value.

Thus, i would like to shorten the pins to only have 1 section for 1 set of boards.

Has anyone done this?

I don't see how you could shorten them without destroying them.

this ever get a solution? I feel the same way OP - not having a single set option for these is nuts. I am tempted to take apart and see. I can fore see losing the ability to lock them with that hole through the bolt, but i dont care about that.
