I have a 1997 Tacoma 4x4 with a 2.7L engine with a distributor. The motor needs replacing and I have access to a 2.7L coil with the harness. Changing the engine will not be a problem but is the harness conversion challenging? Any suggestions?

then you have to have the ecm for year motor/head....98~2000ish matched with your particular tranny.......or the 2001/04 eng type run

    if its a manual......that could be tough/expensive

engine harnesses are much easier to source

in 98 the head switched to needing a cam sensor....to make up for the loss of the distributor

not sure if the harness under your dash is compatible with a later ecm.....may not be plug and play

In 2001 ish they changed everything again.......'coil over plug' distribution
    ....some 2000's

after 02 the auto tranny's (340E) switch to an electronic version ......so that could be a problem.....later/newer auto ecm will probably only work with that newer tranny

most grab that ecm when they pull the motor out of the donor
