Regular season points don't matter, just ask the President's Trophy winner. When talking about playoff hockey, only the cup winner is important.

I understand your take on this, however points don’t tell the whole story. Each team plays more games within their own conference. The East lowest points for a team is 76. The West has three teams well below that.
I just don’t see one conference as stronger than the other. But yes each conference is top heavy, typical of many sports. Info for the 2024-2025 regular season (from AI):

The Leafs took them to seven. Not saying the Leafs deserved the series, they didn't, but let's not pretend that an overtime win in game 3 wouldn't of made for a much more dramatic series.

I’d like to see the Oilers win it as well since the Canes aren’t going to advance, I just think the Panthers are too strong.

 

Still amazes me how you can penalize a player for hooking and then the other player for embellishment.

 

Canes win 3-0 with 2 empty netters. No sweep, bringing it back to Raleigh.

 

Amazes me how Panthers get away with a dozen holds and stick grabs with no penalties.
